Hale, Dovie Bowens -1910-2005-Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 17, 1 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Dovie Bowens Hale, 95, of Williamson, W.Va., formerly of Thealka, Ky., who passed away Tuesday, September 13 at Williamson Memorial Hospital in Williamson, W.Va. Mrs. Hale was born February 22, 1910 in Lawrence County, Ky., daughter of the late Henry and Millie Castle Bowens. She was a homemaker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Hale, and her son, James Lloyd Hale. Surviving are two sisters, Vonda Castle and Florence Wilcox, both of Thealka, Ky.; three grandchildren, Vera Hale of Williamson, W.Va., Zachary Hale of Hazard, Ky., and John Neil Hale of Ashville, N.C.; and five great-grandchildren. The service will be officiated by Gary Blair, with burial following in the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville, Ky.

Hammond, Harold-West Liberty, 76, died Thurs., Sept. 8, 2005, at St. Claire Medical Center, Morehead, KY. Son of the late Herbert and Cassie Hammond. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bettie Howard Hammond; son, Steve (Marsha) Hammond; daughters, Christi Hammond and Laura (Mike) Venters, all of Lexington; four grandchildren, Ross Hammond, Nikki Hammond, Ethan Venters, and Preston Venters; sisters, Maureen (James) Elam and Betty (Glenn) Lykins of West Liberty and Billie (Bernard) Buchanon of Somerset and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sister, Jean (Herman) Owney of Ashland. Services 1 pm Sat., Sept. 10, 2005, Potter Funeral Home, with Elder Jimmy Adkins and Bro. Paul Casteel officiating. Haney, Elizabeth Marie -Childers, 90, of Georgetown, formerly of West Liberty, died Thursday, September 1, 2005. She was born Thursday, Sept.3,1914, at Stacy Fork, Kentucky, a daughter of the late King David and Barbara Gose Haney. Marie was a retired elementary school teacher, and member of West Liberty First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, and was an active member in the WMU. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Rexford Childers; one son, John Resley Childers; three brothers, Charles, Bernard and Ova Haney, and one sister, Zola Haney. Survivors include two sons, Rex and Elaine Childers, of Tabernacle Road, Ezel,.and Paul D. Childers, of Lexington; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and one sister, Lena Wrae Haney Walter, of Stacy Fork. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4,at Potter Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Harry Brock Helton officiating. Burial followed in the Oliver Haney Cemetery, on Stacy Farm, with Potter Funeral Home, of West Liberty, in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Shannon Vest, Mike Childers, David Childers, David Haney, Roger Cantrell, and Greta Helton.

Hannah, Raymond -1913-2005-Funeral services will be held Friday, September 9, 2 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Raymond Hannah, 92, of Swamp Branch, Ky., who passed away Tuesday, September 6 at his residence. Mr. Hannah was born March 28, 1913 in Johnson County, Ky., son of the late Enoch and Miranda Arms Hannah. He was a retired coal miner. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Scott Hannah and two sons, Jack and Cub Hannah. Surviving are four sons, Howard Hannah of Salyersville, Ky., and Steve, Scottie, and Gib Hannah, all of Swamp Branch, Ky.; five daughters, Virginia Salyers and Brenda Lugar, both of Swamp Branch, Ky., Ugonda Bailey of Oil Springs, Ky., Vickie Castle of Thealka, Ky., and Grindle Hitchcock of Hager Hill, Ky.; two sisters, Ida Salyers and Josephine Brown, both of Swamp Branch, Ky.; and 27 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. The service will be officiated by Paul Meade and Melvin Blanton, with burial following in the Hannah Family Cemetery at Swamp Branch, Ky.

Harper, Frances A. -age 82, of West Carrollton OH, passed away unexpectedly on February 6, 2006 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton OH. She was born March 20, 193 in Hendricks KY, the daughter of the late Dona and Lucy (Dyer) Arnett. Mrs Harper was a resident of West Carrollton for 55 years. Preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Beecher Harper in 1997 and 1 brother, Dona C. Arnett of Hendricks KY. She is survived by her daughter, Doris Williams and husband Allen, granddaughter Diane Wood all of Dayton OH, sister, Theda Watkins of Salyersville KY, and numerous other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends on February 9, 2006 5-8pm at the Swart Funeral Home, West Carrollton. A funeral service will be conducted February 11, 2006 at 10am at the Salyersville (KY) Funeral Home. rev Edmund Dooley officiating. Burial will follow at the Dyer Family Cemetery, Hendricks KY. The family will receive friends on February 10, 2006 1-8pm at the funeral home.

Havens, Michael C. -1953-2005-Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 20, 11 a.m. at the Walnut Grove Free Will Baptist Church, for Michael C. Havens, 51, of Lowmansville, Ky., who passed away Tuesday, August 16 at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. Mr. Havens was born November 19, 1953 in Morgan County, Ky., son of Edward Havens and the late Marie Ferguson Havens. Surviving in addition to his father are his wife, Cathy Stevens Havens of Lowmansville, Ky.; one son, Dustin Michael Havens of Lowmansville, Ky.; three daughters, Kimberly (Robbie) Stambaugh of Nippa, Ky., Sandra (David Jr.) Wilder of Paintsville, Ky., and Missy Havens of Lowmansville, Ky.; three brothers, Gary, Billy and Steve Havens, all of West Liberty, Ky.; three sisters, Donna Cantrell and Kim Nickel, both of West Liberty, Ky., and Ruth Davis of Hager Hill, Ky.; and three grandchildren, Austin and Hunter Wilder, and Tylar Stambaugh. The service will be officiated by Jr. Boyd, Harold Stevens and Jimmy VanHoose, with burial following in the Stevens Cemetery at Lowmansville, Ky. Helton, James -77, a retired Morgan Co farmer, died at 4:45 pm Sunday, Jan 12 (1969) at his residence at Ophir following a long illness. Born Nov 18, 1891, he was a son of William and Alice McKenzie Helton. Surviving are his wife, Mint Cole Helton of Ophir, 4 daughters, Mrs Jesse Hill of Ashland, Mrs. Frank Pennington of Flat Gap, Mrs. James A Gibbs of Flat Fork and Mrs Roy Cantrell of Ophir;  One brother, Sam Helton of Ophir;  one sister, Mrs. J.C. Hamilton of Ashland;  30 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Burial in the Helton Cemetery at Ophir.

Hicks, Birchel -1948-2005Funeral services were held Monday, September 19, noon at the Eastside Free Will Baptist Church for Birchel Hicks, 57, of Thelma, Ky., who passed away Friday, September 16 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville, Ky. Mr. Hicks was born March 26, 1948 in Floyd County, Ky., son of the late Allen “Boot” and Evylin Risner Hicks. He was a carpenter. Surviving are his wife, Lois Kay Fromm Hicks of Thelma, Ky.; two sons, James Allen Hicks of Lexington, Ky., and Michael Edward Hicks of Paintsville, Ky.; two daughters, Angela Blair of Denver, Ky., and Nancy Hicks of Morehead, Ky.; one brother, Ricky Hicks of North Manchester, Ind.; two sisters, Patty Sue Clouse of Danville, Ky., and Jo Anna Maiden of Lexington, Ky.; and seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The service was officiated by Harry Neal Frisby, Roger Thornsbury and Van West, with burial in the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville, Ky. Hill, George Anna -90, of 2430 Lynnhaven Drive, Ashland, Ky., passed away Thursday, Sept. 8, 2005, at her residence following a brief illness. George Anna was born May 5, 1915, in Boyd County, Ky., a daughter of the late Burns Jackson Banfield and Lelia Ross Banfield George Anna was a graduate of Boyd County High School and Morehead College. She was a teacher in the Boyd County and Ashland school systems and a member of South Ashland Methodist Church, where she was a former president of the Women's Society. She also was a member of the Woodland Garden Club and Trace Homemakers and a lifelong member and former president of the Ashland Democrat Club. She was a Kentucky colonel In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, William Shade Banfield, John F. Banfield and Lon Ross Banfield Survivors include a son, Jackson Marvin Hill and his wife, Lou (Brad) Artrip; three great-step grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Banfield George of Rush; a brother, Hugh Jack Banfield of Rush; three sisters-in-law, Jo Banfield of Catlettsburg, Ky., Josephine (Raymond) Osborne of Jackson, Ky., and Guinola (John Lee) Burton of Louisa, Ky.; three nieces, Nickie Blanton-Smith of Rush and Beverly Tomlin and Marcia Runyon, both of Catlettsburg; and six nephews, Tim and Mike Bowling, both of Catlettsburg, Bill Banfield of Ashland, Steven Banfield of Hollywood, Calif., and John and Joe Burton, both of Louisa.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Neal Funeral Home in Catlettsburg. Visitation for family and friends will be from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005. Funeral services will be on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Lance Campbell, pastor of South Ashland Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Ross Cemetery in Rush. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101, or the South Ashland Methodist Church music fund.

Howard, Charles F. 1936-2005-Services were held Tuesday, October 18 at the Martin Cemetery at Garrett, Ky. for Charles F. Howard, 69, of Garrett, Ky., who passed away Saturday, October 15 at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, Ky. Mr. Howard was born October 2, 1936 in Garrett, Ky., son of Polly Coburn Howard and the late Harliss Howard. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Aileen Howard; four brothers, Danny, Joe, Keith, and Pete Howard; one sister, Judy; and one grandson, William Chase Salyer. Surviving in addition to his mother are four sons, Mike (Gwen) Howard, Kenneth “Kimble” (Darlene) Howard, Steven “Cecil” Howard and Terry (Marcia) Howard; three daughters, Peggy (Denzil) Turner, Donna (Chris) Bradley and Tina (Ray) Salyer; three brothers, Gordon, Frankie and Gary Howard; four sisters, Betty Layne, Rinki Salmons, Patty Osborne and Deana Longpre; and 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements under the direction of Hindman Funeral Services of Hindman, Ky.

Jayne, Raymond -son of the late Dan Jayne and Flora Williams Jane Hitchcock, was born Dec 21, 1914 and departed this life Sept 21 1966, making his stay here on Earth 51 yrs and 9 months. Surviving besides his mother Flora Hitchcock and stepfather A. D. Hitchcock, are his wife, Della Greene Jayne, 2 daughters, Patricia Ann Cordle, Ashland, KY and Dortha Rae West of Cincinnati, OH, and one son, Danny Lee at home.  4 grandchildren, and 7 sisters and 1 brother, Eddie Jane, Salyersville, KY, Mrs. Oscar Kennard, Mrs. Nola Bradley and Mrs Cecil Wheeler, Mrs Walter Gullett, Mrs D. B. Gullett, Mrs Archie Gullett, Mrs Carl Wells.  One sister, Rouie Altie died in infancy.

Johnson, Lucille Roberts -1915-2005-Funeral services were held Saturday, August 27, 10 a.m. at the Taul Funeral Home Chapel for Lucille Roberts Johnson, 90, of Wurtland, Ky., who passed away Friday, August 26 at the Wurtland Care Center in Wurtland, Ky. Mrs. Johnson was born July 20, 1915, daughter of the late Tallahassee Stafford and Hiram Roberts. She was retired from the Kentucky Department of Social Services. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry Marvin Johnson; one daughter; two sisters, three brothers, and one grandchild. Surviving are two sons, Dwight D. (Marsha) Johnson of Raceland, Ky., and Keen Winston (Donna) Johnson of Mt. Sterling, Ky.; four grandchildren, Kelly, Ben, and Tyler Johnson, all of Mt. Sterling, Ky., and David Johnson of Columbus, Ohio; and seven great-grandchildren. Burial was in the Machpelah Cemetery in Mt. Sterling, Ky. Arrangements under the direction of the Taul Funeral Home of Mt. Sterling, Ky.

Keeton,  Eady -In memory of Eady Keeton who was born Oct 8, 1906 and passed from this life March 28, 1979. She was united in marriage to Sanford Keeton on Jan 30, 1924.  To this union were born 11 children, of whom 2 are deceased.  Surviving are 6 daughters, Mary Lang, Nettie Pawers, Gracie Dulen, Nancy Nickle, Ruthann Sparks, Nellie Gamble;  3 sons, Cecil Keeton, Clifford Keeton, Clyde Keeton;  4 sisters also survive.  Mandie Beekman Washington, Bulie Sayers, Lexie Williams, Della Dixan and 1 brother Crumwell Hill, also 46 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Her parents, Jake N Hill and Margaret Ann Cantrell Hill are both deceased. Callie Skaggs Montgomery Callie Skaggs Montgomery was born Feb 14, 1876.  She was the daughter of Arthur and Cindia Rigsby Skaggs.  She departed this life Dec 28, 1961 at the age of 85 yrs, 10 mo, and 14 days. She was united in marriage to M. B. Montgomery.  To this union was born 8 children.  Her husband and 2 sons having preceded her in death.  She leaves to mourn her loss 3 sons and 3 daughters.  Mrs. Minnie Montgomery, Clark Montgomery, John Montgomery, Mrs. Vennie Rigsby, Mrs. Ertha Jenkins, Elder Harlin Montgomery, and one brother, Dickie Skaggs and also 45 grandchildren, 75 great grandchildren.

Kelly,  Dolphia Milton ‘Rass’ Jr.-1974-2005-Funeral services were held Sunday, August 14, 10 a.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Dolphia Milton “Rass” Kelly Jr., 30, of Flat Gap, Ky., who passed away Wednesday, August 10.Mr. Kelly was born November 6, 1974 in Johnson County, Ky., son of Tina Louise Haney Miller and the late Dolphia M. Kelly. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Ashley and Mildred Kelly of Morgan County, Ky., and Larry Bright of Paintsville, Ky. Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Kimberly A. McKenzie Kelly of Flat Gap, Ky.; his grandmother, Emma Bright of Paintsville, Ky.; two step-sons, Dustin Hill and Cody Sowards, both of Flat Gap, Ky.; his step-father, Bill Miller; one brother, Larry Joe Miller of Staffordsville, Ky.; and eight aunts, Cathy (Don) McCarty, Nickie (Ronnie) Wells, Bonita (Ronnie) Cook, Christy (Will) Leedy, Lisa (Floyd) Rose, Yvonne (Jimmy) Mills, Arlene (Roger) Ison, and Betty Kelly. The service was officiated by Tim Salyer, with burial in the Brown Cemetery in Morgan County, at Moon, Ky. Arrangements under the direction of the Jones-Preston Funeral Home of Paintsville, Ky.
