Joseph H. Johns, Jr., 36, to Be Buried Friday
Nelson - Joseph H. Johns, Jr., 36, died at his home in the Nelson Community Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 10 p.m. following a lingering illness. He was born in Muhlenberg County Aug. 3, 1924.
He was a member of the Nelson Creek Baptist Church where funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 3 at 2 p.m., the Rev. Stanford Simmons, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Nellie Mae Johns of Nelson; brother, Carl Daniel Johns of Nelson; three sisters, Mrs. Roy Shelton and Mrs. James Sumner, both of Nelson, Mrs. W.A. Martin of Detroit.
Greenville - Mrs. Callie Lamb Johnson, 53, died at her home in Louisville at 7:05 p.m. Saturday following a long illness.
She was born in Drakesboro and formerly had been a resident of Powderly.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Ipson of Louisville and Mrs. Rosie Oden of Powderly; one brother, Arthur Lamb of West Va.; several nieces and nephews.
The body will be brought to the Bibbs Funeral Home in Greenville where services will be held at 3 p.m. (CST) Tuesday. The Rev. M. A. Dykes will officiate. Burial will be in Powderly Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
Drakesboro - David William Johnson Jr., 3, Drakesboro, died at home Saturday after accidentally shooting himself.
Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David William Johnson; a brother, Demond Johnson, and two sisters, Venita and Sherrhonda Johnson, all at home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. David Johnson, Drakesboro, and Mrs. Lou Saulsberry, Central City.

Greenville - George Johnson, 84, of Greenville, died Tuesday at Muhlenberg Community Hospital. Born in Christian County, he was a retired farmer and a member of Johnson Chapel United Methodist Church.

H.N. ƑTom) Johnson, 81 years old, died of heart disease at his home near Kirkmansville at 4:30 o'clock last Sunday afternoon. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Higgins at the home Monday afternoon, and burial was in the Johnson cemetery. Surviving are the widow; three sons, Alvin, Clarence, and Herman Johnson, and six grandchildren.
Hartford - Hemon (John) Johnson Jr., 61, of Rural Route 1 Cromwell died Saturday April 21, 1990 at Veterans Administration Hospital in Nashville, Tenn. He was born in Rockport, Ky. and retired as the owner of University Heating and Air Conditioning in Chicago, Ill. He was a member of Echols General Baptist Church, the Shawnee Masonic Lodge no. in Louisville, and Valley South Bend Shrine. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda June Collier Johnson of Cromwell; three sons, Kevin Johnson of Kalamath Falls, Ore., Jon Eric Johnson of Sacramento, Ca., and Michael Shawn Johnson of Napa, Ca.; two daughters, Linda C. Hartford - Hemon Johnson Sr., 79, of 115 Riverside Drive, Hartford, died Friday, Sept. 4, 1987 in Ohio County. He was born in Butler county; was a retired farmer and coal miner; and was a member of Echols General Baptist Church and Central City Masonic Lodge No. 673. He was a veteran of World War II.

Drakesboro - Henry Thomas Johnson, 82, of Drakesboro, died late Monday at Muhlenberg Community Hopsital, Greenville. Born in Todd County, he was a retired miner and a member of Browder Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Jessie Arnold, Drakesboro; two sons, Thurman Johnson, Drakesboro, and Wilbur Johnson, Greenville; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Milrose Johnson, Elkton, and Elmer Johnson, Adairville, and two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Wilhite and Miss Effie Johnson, both of Elkton.

Central City - Johnnie Thearon Johnson, 55, of Moorman, Ky., died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital after an illness of three years. For ten years Johnson had been employed with the Green River Chair Co., in Livermore.
Born at Todd County, Ky., on Jan. 9, 1913, he had lived in Muhlenberg County for most of his life. His survivors include his wife, Mrs. Agnes Johnson; three daughters, Mrs. Linda Gillim and Miss Gerl Dean Johnson, both of Owensboro, and Mrs. Norma Rickard of Lewisport; two sons, John Johnson and Ernest Johnson, both of Moorman; one grandchild; four sisters, Mrs. Ada McGehee, Mrs. Estell Ford, Miss Bercha Johnson, all of Owensboro, and Mrs. Milderene Duke of Charlotte, Tenn.; and two brothers, the Rev. J. V. Johnson of Vanleer, Tenn., and Elvis Johnson of Owensboro.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Tucker Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Harold Murphy and the Rev. Delbert Gray. Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery.

Funeral Services For Juanita Johnson, Cleaton
Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Baptist church at Cleaton for Miss Juanita Johnson, 19 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Johnson, with the Rev. Mr. Harold of Drakesboro, in charge. Miss Johnson died at the home of her parents at 12:35 Wednesday afternoon. She had been in declining health for some time. Surviving besides her parents are several sisters and brothers. Burial was in the Miller cemetery.
Julian Johnson, 74, Dies in Louisville
Valley Station - Julian Pendleton Johnson, 74, Valley Station Route 3, formerly of Central City, died in the Jewish Hospital in Louisville Thursday, Sept. 19 at 7:30 a.m. He was a retired construction worker born in Butler County Jan. 20, 1883 and was a member of the Central City First Christian Church.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. in Central City with the Rev. C.W. Devine, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Central City, officiating. Burial was in the Nelson Creek Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ada Johnson of Valley Station Route 3; four sons, Homer Johnson of Chalmers, Ind., Oval, Leaman, and Welborn Johnson of Central City; three daughters, Mrs. Roy Geary of Central city, Mrs. Erbie Daniels of Louisville, Mrs. Joe Calvert of Valley Station; step-daughters, Mrs. Carl Watkins of Wyandotte, Mich.; four brothers, Charlie and Mel Johnson of Jetron, John and All Johnson of Bowling Green; 29 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Johnson, 72, Dies in Indiana
Mrs. Mildred Robertson Johnson, 72, of Ft. Wayne, Ind., died at the Lutheran Nursing Home in Ft. Wayne on Wednesday, May 16 at 9:30 p.m., after a long illness.
Born in Central City July 9, 1900, she was a member of the Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Harold B. Cox of Los Angeles, Calif. and William R. Cox of Dayton, Ohio; daughters, Mrs. Arden Ober of Ft. Wayne; sister, Mrs. S.C. Gish Jr. of Central City; brother, J.F. Robertson of Sarasota, Fla.
Funeral services were at Plainfield, Ind. and burial was in Indianapolis.
Mrs. Missouri Johnson, Browder, Dies in Hospital
Mrs. Missouri Paralee Johnson, 80, died in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital at 6 p.m., Sunday. She was a member of the Holiness Church. Her home was Browder.
Surviving are three sons, Coy Sadler, Cleaton; Seymore Mayes, Browder; and Marvin Mayes of Browder; two daughters, Mrs. Bertha Harper, Stringtown community; and Miss Iva Sadler of Central City; one brother J.T. Lear of Oak Hill community in Hopkins County; 20 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday in the Sheegog Holiness Church, Central City, with burial in Forest Grove Cemetery.
Hartford - Nellie Mae Johnson, 82, of 115 Riverside Drive, Hartford, died Friday, March 5, 1993, at her home. She was born in Butler County, lived in Hartford for 25 years and was a member of Echols General Baptist Church. She was retired co-owner of B & H Supply in Hartford, and former co-owner of Dick's Cooling and Heating in Central City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hemon J. Johnson, in 1987, and a son, John Johnson, in 1990.
Survivors include two sons, Dick Johnson of Greenville, SC, and Pride Johnson of Central City; two daughters, Clemmie Noffsinger of Hartford and Deliah [sic - Delilah] Avery of Central City; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great;great;grandchild.
Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Echols General Baptist Church. Burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home, Hartford.
Oval Johnson, 79, of 508 West Reservoir Avenue, Central City, died Wednesday, March 1 at 2:55 a.m. at Kentucky Rest Haven, Madisonville.
He was born March 11, 1909 in Butler County and was a retired mechanic.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Anna Mae Johnson; three daughters, Carolyn Curren of La Mesa, Calif., Margaret Wood of Central City and Vaudine Justice of Madisonville; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Homer Johnson of Louisville; three sisters, Erbie Daniels and Christine Calvert of Louisville and Donnie Geary of Central City.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Tucker Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ernest Whitely officiating, assisted by the Rev. Margaret Justice. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery.
Robert Johnson, Colored, Dies Friday Afternoon
Robert Johnson, 62, colored, died at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Hopkinsville, Friday afternoon, January 11.
He was a native of Muhlenberg County and had lived in Greenville for the past 27 years. Funeral services were conducted at Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, Sunday at 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. E. Horace Brown officiating. Burial was in the West End Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Archie Reno, Edgar Reynolds, Raymond Ackron, Israel Gibson, Henry Singleterry, and George Gregory.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Beatrice Johnson; one stepson, James Vaught; two sisters, Mrs. Vannie Morgan and Mrs. Glade Hinton, Hopkinsville; three brothers, James Johnson of Woodburn, Will Johnson of Paducah, and Edward Johnson of Belton.
Roy Johnson, 70, to be buried Sept. 9
Roy Johnson, 70, of Central City Route 3, died in Muhlenberg Community Hospital at 2:58 a.m. today (Thursday) after a lengthy illness. He was a retired farmer.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Hazel Johnson of Central City Route 3; son, Glenn M. Johnson of Browder; three daughters, Mrs. Carlene Carter of Owensboro, Mrs. Jean Johnson of Louisville, Mrs. Ruby Wilcox of Central City; eight grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; sister, Mrs. Cova Cox of Chicago.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Central City with the Rev. Willard L. Brown in charge, assisted by the Rev. Roy Geary. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Drakesboro - Samson Johnson, 58, of Louisville, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 1984, at Jewish Hospital, Louisville. He was born in Muhlenberg County.
Survivors include his wife, Savannah Johnson; a daughter, Patricia Johnson of Detroit, Mich.; two brothers, David Johnson of Drakesboro and James Johnson of Indianapolis, Ind.; and a sister, Mrs. Frances Woods of Drakesboro.

Beaver Dam - Samuel Cecil Johnson, 94, of 673 Nineteen School Road, Beaver Dam, died Saturday, June 11, 1994, at Ohio County Hospital in Hartford. He was born in Butler County, retired as a coal miner with Louisville Gas and Electric Co., and was a member of Echols General Baptist church. His wife, Eva Cardwell Johnson, died March 13, 1975. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Geneva Carmen, and by a granddaughter, Phyllis Carmen.
Survivors include two sons, Sammie Johnson of Beaver Dam and Glindle Johnson of Fort Myers, Fla.; three daughters, Mayline Strample of Chicago, Gwen Baize of McHenry and Pat Nance of Echols; 10 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; two stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Johnson of Central City.
Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at William L. Danks Funeral Home, Beaver Dam. Burial in Echols Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. John Johnson, 81, Dies in Ohio
Dayton, Ohio - Mrs. John R. (Verna) Johnson, 81, died in Dayton on March 30.
She was a former Logan County teacher and had lived in Central City and Bremen. The daughter of the late Dr. Tatum of Logan County, she had lived in Dayton about 30 years.
Surviving are a son, John Walton Johnson of Dayton; daughter, Mrs. William Drake of Dayton; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Services were in Dayton, conducted by the pastor of the Third Street Baptist Church, of which she was a member. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Dayton.
Central City - Herbert Joinn [sic], 51, died at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital, Greenville, at 7:20 a.m. Sunday following a heart attack.
He was a miner, employed at the Crescent Coal Co., and was born in Muhlenberg County.
Surviving are his wife, Betty; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Smith and Mrs. Reba Joinn; four sons, Bobby, Glendal and Benny Harold Joinn, all of Central City, and Gene W. Joinn, Hebron, Ind.; four grandchildren; father, G. H. Joinn of Greenville; one brother, Hubert Joinn of Greenville, and a sister, Mrs. Mabel Mayes, Route 4, Greenville.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Tucker Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Carroll Yarbrough, pastor of the Green River Chapel Baptist Church, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The body is at the funeral home.

Greenville - Delbert E. Jones, 38, died Thursday morning, Feb. 29, in St. Margaret Hospital in Hammond, Ind. following a short illness.
He was born in Muhlenberg County Jan. 27, 1930.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Betty Jones of Hammond; step-daughter, Mrs. Shirley Parsons of Hammond; six sisters, Mrs. Gwen Whodrey, New Albany, Ind.; Mrs. C. E. Rager of Philpot, Mrs. E. D. Herrell of Louisville, Mrs. Robert Wright of Griffith, Ind., Mrs. Bobby Turner of Hobart, Ind., Miss Glenia Jones of Louisville; two brothers Austin and Paul O. Jones of Louisville; parents Mr. and Mrs. Sellie Jones of Greenville Route 2.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Green Briar General Baptist Church by the Rev. William Mallory, with burial in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Rhea Jones, 59, is buried Sept. 1
Bremen - Mrs. Ethel Mae Jones, 59, of Bremen, died at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, at a nursing home in Greenville following a long illness.
She was born Aug. 6, 1908, in Muhlenberg County and was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Rhea Jones; daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Gossett of Gary, Ind.; three sons, Harlan Jones of Evansville, Jerry Wayne and Carl Jones of Hammond, Ind.; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Willodean Gish of Bremen and Mrs. Stella Woodburn of Sacramento; two brothers, Everett Rhoades of Bremen and Estil Rhoades of Norwood, Ohio.
Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Calhoun with the Rev. James Crowell, pastor of New Harmony Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in Old Bethel Cemetery, Muhlenberg County.
Mrs. Hester Ann Jones died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Calvin Geary, at Nelson, on May 14, at ten o'clock in the morning, following an illness that extended over a month of nephritis.
The daughter of Rube Vincent and Betty Ann Elmore Vincent, she was born in Muhlenberg county, November 29, 1860, and was the widow of Jesse Jones, deceased.
Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the Nelson Baptist church, Rev. Dockery having charge of the services. Interment was in the church graveyard.

Funeral services for John Rufus Jones, 43, of Echols, who died at his home Friday afternoon, January 18, following an illness of one year, were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, at the Echols General Baptist church, with the Rev. Henry Baize, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
A retired farmer, Mr. Jones was a member of the Echols Baptist church.
Surviving are the wife, Mrs. Becky David Jones, six daughters, Mrs. Mamie Dockery, Butler County; Mrs. Hester Arnold, Cleaton, Ky.; Mrs. Nancy Tooley, Central City; Mrs. Ruthie Baize, McHenry; Mrs. Anna Mary Bratcher, Echols and Mrs. Jessie Lois Keown, Evansville; three sons, Mance Jones, Rockport, Ky., William and Mitchell Jones, both of Echols; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Geary and Mrs. Lillie Bullock, both of Nelson, Ky.; three brothers, Thomas Jones, Owensboro, Arbie Jones, Chicago, and Russell Jones, Arkansas.
The Cecil Chinn Funeral Home, McHenry, had charge of the funeral service.
Death of Mrs. Linda Faust Jones.
Mrs. Linda Faust Jones was born in Lebanon, Tenn., Jan. 1, 1854, and died at the Cumberland Presbyterian parsonage here April 10, at 8:55 a.m. She was converted at an early age and united with the Baptist church, living a piouis, devoted Christian life. Mrs. Jones was a cousin of Rev. O. A. Barbee, pastor of the Cumberland Presbyterian church here. Upon the death of her husband some years ago she made Mr. Barbee's residence her home, and continued a member of his family to the day of her death. Her funeral was preached by Rev. F. E. Lewis, pastor of the Methodist Church, South, at the Cumberland parsonage Sunday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock, and interment followed in Evergreen cemetery. At both services many friends gathered to show the last token of respect.
Central City - Morton Jones, 75, of Central City, died yesterday at his home of an apparent heart attack. He was associated with the Kirk Coal Mining Co., Drakesboro, for 40 years; a director of Central City First National Bank, a member of the Muhlenberg Community Hospital board of directors and the Hazelcreek Masonic Lodge and was on the administrative board of the Central City United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Pearl Hillyard Jones; a son, Charles M. Jones, Hopkinsville; a daughter, Mrs. Charles Welborn, Greensboro, N.C.; four grandchildren, and three sisters, Mrs. Robert Lyon, Owensboro; Mrs. I.C. Washburne, Drakesboro, and Mrs. W.T. Savage, Ripley, Tenn.
The body is at Parker-Washburne-Pannell Funeral Home, Central City.
Jones, Morton, 75, of Central City, died Wednesday at his home. Services 11 a.m. Saturday at Central City United Methodist Church with the Rev. Marshall Owens, pastor, officiating. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Greenville. Friends may call at the Jones' residence until 9 a.m. Saturday when the body will be taken to the church.
Died, at his residence in Muhlenberg county, just across the river from Ceralvo, last Thursday evening, of old age and general debility, Richard Jones. His remains were interred in the Mt. Olivet church burying grounds Saturday. The deceased was eighty-nine years, seven months and ten days old at the time of his death. He has been an active member of the ME church South for about sixty years. It can be truly said that a good christian gentleman has gone to his final rest.
William Haddon Jones, 76, Depoy, Ky., died Tuesday morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Herbert Mock, near here, following a lingering illness.
Other survivors are, his wife, Mrs. Minnie Jones, two more children, Sherman Jones, Detroit, and R.O. Jones, Graham, Ky.; 13 grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at Unity Church, Muhlenberg county. Burial was in the church cemetery.
