In the name of God, amen. I, R. Shelton, of the county of Muhlenberg and state of Kentucky, being sick and weak in body but of sound mind and disposing memory for which I thank God and calling to mind the uncertainty of human life and being desirous to dispose of all such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with, I give and bequeath the same in manner following.
First, I desire that all the perishable part of my estate or so much thereof as will pay all my just debts and my furneral expenses, should the perishable parts of my property prove insufficient for the above purposes then I desire that my executors hereafter named my self so much of the lands and the money arising therefrom pay and satisfy such of my just debts as shall remain unpaid out of the sales of the perishable of my estate.
Second, after the payment of my debts and funeral expenses, I give to my son in law James Duvall and my daughter Mary Duvall all my lands together with all my stock of hogs, cattle, sheep & hogs with all my household and kitchen furniture and farming utensils.
Third, I give unto my granddaughter [sic] Riddick Duvall one dollar in money.
Fourth, I will that my son in law and daughter James and Mary Duvall be charged with the comfortable support of wife Nancy Shelton during her life and whenever she may deem it proper for her comfort in life my will is that she take the one third part of every species of property I may die possessed of and after her death to go to my son in law and daughter James and Maria Duvall forever.
Fifth, all the estate of my estate both real and personal of what nature or kind shown, it may be not herein before particularly disposed of I desire may be part of the exclusive use and benefit of my above named children and grandson forever and lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my son in law and daughter James and Maria Duvall executor and executrix of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all these or former wills or testaments by me heretofore made in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 24th day of January 1837.
