Greenville, September 12, 1861
Knowing it is appointed unto men to die, being in good health and sound mind, I make this my last will and testament.
1st I will and bequeath to my sister Susan A. Harbin my house & lot that she now lives in being conveyed to me by E.M. Brank & wife. Also my farm east of Greenville laying between where A. & C. McLean live and Jernigans conveyed to me by J.L. McIntire to have and to hold absolutely without valuation.
2. I will and bequeath the remainder of my estate to Joseph P. Short, Wm. T. Short or his children, Jacob L. Short (Sarah J. Spurrier and Ephraim Short one share between them) and Susan A. Harbin to have a full share apart from what is willed her above.
David T. Short, Jane Eaves & Jonathan Short, my brothers & sister to have no part of my estate as I believe the Rebellion they are aiding will lessen my estate more than I could give them.
My wish is that all my just debts be speedily paid.

2. Jacob L. Short one share
3. Wm. T. Short one share
4. Susan A. Harbin one share besides the land above willed her.
5. Sarah J. Spurrier & E. Short one share between them.
Brother David T. Short, Jonathan Short & Sister Jane Eaves to have no part.
I appoint J.P. Short & Benj. J. Shaver my executors, if they do not qualify I appoint P.H. Baker & Jesse H. Reno to carry my will into effect.
My will is that my executors sell all my property that cannot be divided between my legatees satisfactorily, collect all dues as fast as possibly.
Jonathan Short, D.T. Short & Sanders Eaves owne me largely, my wish is that it all be collected off them.

The foregoing last will and testament of George W. Short deceased was produced to court and proven to be the act and deed of George W. Short deceased, by the oaths of S.H. Dempsey, Adlai Boyd and S.D. Chatham, the three subscribing witnesses thereto, and being of the same date and purport of the will witnessed by B.E. Pittman and John Campbell and ordered at the present term of said court to be recorded, is also ordered to be recorded.
