Burial of remains at Eastern State Hospital

In June of 2005 eleven graves were unearthed while laying new water lines on the hospital grounds.  Ten of the remains were in a mass grave, with the 11th grave nearby.  After nearly two years of studying the remains by the University of Kentucky Archeological Department, they were interred on April 11, 2007 at Eastern State Hospital.  Each of the remains were placed in a plan wooden box with a small plate describing the sex and estimated age.  Per the archeological report, it was estimated that the original burials occurred sometime between 1830 and 1860.

The Lexington Herald-Leader covered the event. Here are the pictures they took.
