A baby of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Dukes died at their home on Long creek last Sunday, after a short illness from whooping cough. Burial was at Johnson graveyard Monday.
Greenville - Arvil Edgar Dukes, 58, of Greenville died Saturday, Aug. 2, 1980, at Madisonville Regional Medical Center. He was born in Todd County and was a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Ruth Dukes; eight sons, Kevin Bryant and Steve Allen Dukes, both at home, Melvin Ray and Edgar Lee Dukes, both of Van Buren, Ark., and Garry Dean, Terry Keith, David Lynn and Melvin Dale Dukes, all of Greenville; two daughters, Banita Fay and Tisa Reina Dukes, both of Greenville; 19 grandchildren; two brothers, Joel Dukes of Drakesboro and Melvin Dukes of California; and four sisters, Mrs. Marie Bivins of Greenville, Mrs. Nervie Travis of Central City, Mrs. Ruth Jones of California and Rine of Arizona.

Browder - Elmer Dukes, 77, died at Muhlenberg Community Hospital at 12:35 p.m. Saturday after a long illness.
He was a member of Browder Chapel Baptist Church and was a deacon of the church for a number of years.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Meacie R. Dukes of Browder; one daughter, Mrs. Bertha Lee Randolph of Detroit, Mich.; one son, Chester Dukes of Newark, N.J.; three grandchildren; one brother, Edward Dukes of Hopkinsville.
Services will be held at Browder Chapel Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon, with the Rev. W.C. Grace, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body is at Bibbs Funeral Home in Greenville.
Greenville - Mrs. Fannie Belle Dukes, 80, died at 7:30 a.m. Thursday at the home of her son, Charlie Dukes, Greenville, Route 3.
She was born in Muhlenberg County and was a member of the Emberry Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Miss Beulah Dukes of Greenville; seven sons, Yearl Dukes of Nortonville, Ky., Bryant Dukes of Granite City, Ill., Hubert Dukes of Route 3, Madisonville, Jake, Eddie, Arl and Charlie Dukes of Greenville; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Nora Skimmiehard and Mrs. Sally Dukes of Tennessee.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Emberry Methodist Church. The Rev. Howard Ditmore will be in charge of services. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body will remain at the Gary Funeral Home until time of services.
Cleaton, Ky. - George Alvin Dukes, 82, of Cleaton died Tuesday at Muhlenberg Community Hospital, Greenville. He was born in Christian County, was a retired miner, was a member of Beviere Presbyterian Church and was a veteran of World War I.
Survivors include 10 sons, Buel Dukes of Berwin, Ill., Yuel Dukes of Stickney, Ill., Bennie Dukes of Browder, Connis Dukes of Owensboro, Othel Dukes of Wheaton, Ill., Bill J. Dukes of Decatur, Ala., Robert Dukes of Drakesboro, Jackie Dukes of Greenville, Loyd Dukes of Beechmont and Jimmy Dukes of Central City; three daughters, Margie Erwin of Hickory Hill, Ill., and Dorothy Hawkins and Francis Camplin, both of Stickney, Ill.; 32 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hattie Denny of Luzerne.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Tucker Funeral Home, Central City. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Central City. Visitation after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Central City - Jacob Thomas Dukes, 42, died at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital, Greenville, following an illness of several months.
He was born in Muhlenberg County on March 2, 1928. Dukes was a former truck driver for the Illinois State Highway Department.
Survivors include two daughters, Thelma Earle Dukes and Rhonda Gayle Dukes, and one son, Orvell Gene Dukes - all of Chicago, Ill.; his mother, Mrs. Margaret Dukes, Central City; five sisters: Mrs. Daisy Bowers, Central City; Mrs. Shirley Kinney, Greenville; Mrs. Margaret Nelson, Hartford; Mrs. Addie Timmons, Independence, Mo.; and Mrs. Ruby Collins, Boonville, Ind.; one brother: Johnny Dukes, Chicago, Ill.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Gary Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Barbee Mercer officating. Burial will be at Nebo Cemetery.

Greenville - James Benton Dukes, 58, of Greenville, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 2:10 p.m. in Muhlenberg Community Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Muhlenberg County July 26, 1919, he was a retired auto mechanic and a veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ruby E. Dukes of Greenville; daughter, Mrs. Linda Gordon of Greenville; son, Buel W. Dukes of Madisonville; three sisters, Mrs. Velma Massey of Greenville, Mrs. Mary Dukes of Greenville and Mrs. Lucille Ferrell of Akron, Ohio; brother, Archie Dukes of Hammond, Ind.; six grandchildren.
Services were Thursday at 1 p.m. at Gary Funeral Home with the Rev. M.L. Ray in charge. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery.
Central City - James E. Dukes, 74, retired coal miner, died at his home, Route 2, Central City, at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, following a lingering illness.
He was born in Muhlenberg County and was a member of the Richardson Chapel General Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Grace Dukes; two sons, Clarence of Empire, Ore., and Howard of Louisville; one daughter, Mrs. Lucille Gregory of Cynthiana, Ind.; nine grandchildren; one brother, Claude of Louisville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the Richardson Chapel General Baptist Church. The Rev. Willie Blake of Beech Creek will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The body has been removed from the Tucker Funeral Home to the Dukes' residence.
Central City, Ky., Oct. 24 - James Spurlin Dukes, 74, succumbed at his home in the Morehead neighborhood early Saturday morning from heart trouble. The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at Cherry Hill church by Rev. Elliott. Interment in church cemetery. Survived by three sons, Willie Dukes, Charles Dukes, Joe Dukes, four daughters, Mrs. Robert Dukes, Mrs. C.E. Whitehouse, Mrs. Robert Morris and Miss Nellie Dukes; one brother, Marvin Dukes, of Bevier and one sister, Mrs. Bradford Adcock, of this city.
Aged Muhlenberg Veteran Dies;
Only Five More Remain In County
Only five of the veterans of the War Between the States remain in Muhlenberg county, from which went a large number in the days of '61, one of the six, Joseph C. Dukes, 90 years old, passing away at 8:15 Friday morning, at his home in the Stringtown section, near here.
Military honors were accorded Mr. Dukes by Post No. 61 of the American Legion. Mr. Dukes enlisted in 1861 as a private in Company B, Kentucky Volunteers, and served throughout the period of the war. He was next to the last of a family of nine children, and was born and reared in Muhlenberg county, enlisting in the army from the county. His brother, a veteran of the same company, also survives. He has lived in the county all of his life, like his brother. There also survive the widow now 88 years old and a large family of children and grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2:10 o'clock Saturday afternoon, many veterans of the wars following the funeral cortege to the Miller cemetery, near Stringtown.
Central City - Services for Kermit F. Dukes who died Monday will be held at 2 p.m. today at Ebenezer Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. J. R. Craig, pastor of the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Mallie Vinie Dukes died at her home near Central City on January 26 [1942] following an attack of apoplexy. The daughter of Clarence Clarday she was born in Tennessee on April 3, 1863. The funeral was conducted at Richardson Chapel on January 28 with services in charge of her pastor Rev. John Jones. Interment was in Jagoe Cemetery.
Mrs. Orvil Dukes
Greenville - Mrs. Martha Lou Dukes, 54, died at 5:50 a.m. Monday at her home, Route 3, Greenville, following a long illness. She was born March 16, 1915, in Muhlenberg County, and was a member of the Landmark Church.
Surviving are her husband, Orvil Dukes; a daughter, Mrs. Ethel Deakes, Route 1, Greenville; 10 sons, Melvin, Dale, Lee, Terry, Gary, David and Jimmy Dukes, all of Route 3, Greenville, Wayne Dukes of Ridgley, Tenn., Glendel Dukes of Whiting, Ind., and Raymond Dukes of Chicago, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Melvin Reeves of Whiting, and Mrs. Ben Henderson of Hopkinsville; a brother, James Strong of Whiting.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today in Landmark Church, conducted by the Rev. Carlos Webster with burial in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Maud Dukes, 41 years old, died after a long illness on December 6. She is survived by her husband, James Dukes and two children. Burial was in the Wilcox burial ground.
Greenville - Mrs. Maude Dukes, 73, widow of Ed Dukes, died Monday in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a brief illness. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Lester Henderson, Mrs. V. L. McDaniel and Mrs. Otis Myers, all of Gary, Ind.; a son, Melvin Dukes of Greenville; nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Nora Dukes of Greenville; a half sister, Mrs. Fannie Poag of Madisonville, and two brothers, Shelly Inghram, Mishawaka, Ind., and Emmett Inghram of Hartford.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev.
Greenville - Mrs. Nancy Lee Dukes, 63, of Powderly, died early Sunday at her home. Born in Muhlenberg County, she was a daughter of Mrs. Ola Cobb of Greenville and the late Charles Cobb. She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church, Muhlenberg County.
Surviving besides her mother are her husband, Wallace Dukes; a daughter, Mrs. Frieda Spears, Powderly; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Clara Humphreys and Mrs. Bertha Hancock, both of Powderly, and Mrs. Ina Wilkins, Grenada, Miss., and three brothers, Herman and Freeman Cobb, both of Greenville, and Earl Cobb, Central City.

Mrs. Permelia Dukes, 87, Dies at Home Near Weir
Mrs. Permelia Jane Dukes, 87, died Wednesday at 3:15 a.m. at her home near Weir. She was the widow of the late William Sampson Dukes. Funeral services will be held at Cave Spring Church, Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Fred Fox officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ellis Dukes, Willits, Calif.; three sons, Allas Dukes of Greenville, Oscar Dukes of R3, Greenville, and Floyd Dukes of R3, Greenville; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Robert L. Dukes, 79, Dies Aug. 22
Robert Lewis Dukes, 79, of Central City Route 1, died Friday, Aug. 22 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital at 10:45 a.m.
Born in Muhlenberg county Feb. 24, 1896, he was a retired coal miner.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mable Dukes; son, Michael Dukes of Louisville; four daughters, Mrs. Elgan Evitts of Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Owen Garrett and Mrs. Arthur Garrett of Louisville and Mrs. Glendell Rice of Livermore; 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Ulye Dukes of Nashville, Tenn.
Services were at 2 p.m. Sunday at Gary Funeral Home. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery, Central City.
Rufus Alexander Dukes, 78 years old, died of pneumonia at his home in Bevier last Saturday. Interment was in the Dukes burying ground Sunday. He is survived by his widow.
Greenville - Mrs. Margaret Dulin, 72, died at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital at 7:25 p.m. Wednesday.
Survivors are her husband, Will Dulin, and nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Dulin was a member of Wesley Chapel AME Zion Church.
Funeral serives will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Wesley Chapel with the pastor, the Rev. H. L. Hall officiating assisted by the Rev. Alverna Bard.
Burial will be in West End Cemetery.

Charles Duncan Killed By Hit-Run Driver
Charles Duncan, 34, former Greenville citizen, died in an Eldorado, Ill., hospital Saturday, January 23, following injuries received when struck by a hit-and-run driver on the highway near Eldorado, January 16. He received a broken leg and internal injuries. He was buried at that place last Thursday.
Mr. Duncan was formerly connected with Hunter's Cafe here, leaving Greenville several months ago. He is survived by a wife and one child. Mrs. Noel Hunter is a sister.
Mrs. Dollie Duncan
Bremen - Mrs. Dollie Duncan, 64, died Sunday here in her home of a lingering illness. Born in Grayson County, she was a member of the Briar Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her husband, Harrison; two daughters, Mrs. Ruby Tarrents of Bremen and Mrs. Ray Young of Narrows; two grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Olmie Cummings of Louisville, and four brothers, Nathan Payton of Bremen, Lodford and Joy Payton of Olaton and Rollie Payton of Owensboro.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in McGrady Baptist Church, Grayson County, with the Rev. Emmitt Faught officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body is at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento.
Greenville, Ky. - Mrs. Emma Randolph Duncan, 90, of 120 S. Cherry St., Greenville, died here Wednesday at Muhlenberg Community Hospital. She was born in Hampton, Va., and was a member of Greenville First Presbyterian Church and the Women's Club. Her husband, W.G. Duncan Jr., died in the 1940s.
Survivors include a son, William Graham Duncan III of Lexington, Ky.; a daughter, Virginia Minish of Louisville; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The body was moved from Gary's Funeral Home, Greenville, and taken to Pearson's Funeral Home, 149 Breckenridge Lane, Louisville, where private funeral services will be held with burial following in Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville.
Paducah - Melvin L. Duncan, 69, of Paducah, formerly of Cleaton, died Thursday, April 3, 1997, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Cleaton and a Korean War veteran, receiving numerous citations including the Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Duncan.
Survivors include a son, Vincent Duncan of Paducah; a stepdaughter, Iris Kelly of Paducah; a grandchild; a stepgrandchild; two brothers, Richard Allen of Columbia, S.C., and Charles Allen of Paducah; and two sisters, Clara Hollins of Paducah and Thelma Cain of Central City.
Services are at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Cleaton. Burial will be in West End Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation is from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church. Bibbs Funeral Home in Greenville is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Ethel Dunning, 89, of Central City, died at 7:50 p.m., Friday, April 14, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
She was born June 3, 1899 in Muhlenberg County, was a member of the Church of Nazarene in Central City. Her husband, Oliver Dunning, died in 1978.
Survivors include two sons, J.R. Dunning of Owensboro and Ted Dunning of Central City; two daughters, Edna Huth and Ann Williams of Central City; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grand-children, and four great-great-grandchildren. Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Otis Allen officiating, assisted by Melvin Wilkerson. Burial was in Rosehill Cemetery.
Greenville - Irene Durall, 92, of 110 Wilson St., Greenville, died Wednesday, July 28, 1993, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital. She was born in Earlington and was a member of Second Baptist Church in Greenville. Her husband, W.M. “Willie” Durall, died in 1988.
Survivors include three sons, Gerald Durall of New Carlisle, Ohio, Lyndell Durall of New Cypress and Whipple Durall of Weir; three daughters, Bonnie Beard of Naples, Fla., Fairy Brown of Wildwood, Fla., and Pansy Gray of Greenville; 21 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Edna Kate Wasik of Three Rivers, Mass., and Cecil Rhea Hanson of Nelson Creek.

John A. Duvall [sic] Dies in Bethel Community
John A. Duvall, 75 years old, a life-long resident of Muhlenberg county, died at his home in the Bethel community at 9:10 last Sunday night of complications due to advanced age.
Mr. Duvall was actively angaged in farming until 1922, when he retired.
Funeral services were held at the Bethel Church Tuesday afternoon by the Rev. D. M. Spears, pastor of the Central City Methodist church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Surviving are the widow and three sons.
John R. Durall, 71, Central City, dies
John Robert Durall, 71, died at his home in Central City Wednesday, March 19, at 7 p.m. He was a retired coal miner born in Muhlenberg County May 10, 1886. He was a member of Old Bethel Baptist Church where funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 22, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. S.A. Kittinger officiating, assisted by the Rev. Ora DeArmond. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He is survived by two daughters, Miss Daisy Durall of Central City, Mrs. Clyde Monroe of Piquay, Ohio; son, Sherman Durall of Central City; two brothers, Walter Durall of Central City, Willie Durall of Greenville; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Durall Dies At Old Bethel
Bethel - Mrs. Sallie Armenta Durall, 81, died at her home in the Old Bethel Community today (Thursday) at 7:30 a.m.
She was a member of the Old Bethel Church where the funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon with interment in the church cemetery.
Survivors are three sons, Willie Durall, Greenville; J.R. and Walter Durall, of the Old Bethel community; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was born Feb. 12, 1867.
Greenville - Luther William Duvall, 78, of Greenville died Wednesday, July 28, 1993, at Jernigan Mini Nursing Home in Greenville. He was born in Muhlenberg County and was a retired farmer.
Survivors include three nieces and five nephews.
Services are at 3 p.m. today [Friday] at Gary's Funeral Home, Greenville, Burial in Joines Chapel Cemetery near Clifty. Visitation from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Mose Duvall died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jeff Curtis, on June 22, and was bured near Greenville, the following day.
Greenville - Mrs. Neva Mae Baker Duvall, 72, of Belton, died Saturday, June 4, 1983, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital, Greenville. She was born in Muhlenberg County and was a member of Myers Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Raymond Lewis Duvall, of Gary, Ind.; a daughter, Mrs. Huberta Kimmel, of Belton; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six brothers, Dennis Baker, of Dunmor, Harrel and P.P. Baker, both of Belton; Charlie Baker, of Adairville, J.J.
