Head, Bedie

Dawson Springs - Mrs. Bedie Head, 68, died at Watkins Rest Home in Madisonville at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 4 p.m. today at Bibbs Funeral Home in Greenville, with burial in West End Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home.

Hearin, Ethel Florence

Central City - Mrs. Ethel Florence Hearin, 68, died at 10:45 p.m. Monday at her home in Evansville. Born in Stewart County, Tennessee, she was a member of Church of Nazarene, Evansville.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas Dillingham of Corpus Christi, Tex., and Wallace Dillingham of Springfield, Ohio: two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Dukes of Powderly and Mrs. Dolly Jackson of Pittsburgh, Pa.: three brothers, Charlie and William McCoy, both of Owensboro, and Clarence McCoy of Margo, Florida: seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Services will be conducted Wednesday at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. James Tripp officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The body is at the funeral home where friends may call.

Heck, Theodora

Central City, Ky., July 25. - Theodora Heck, of Bevier, died at his home July 19 after a lingering illness. Mr. Heck was an uncle of Mrs. Florence Myres, Mrs. Luther Pierce and Mrs. E. H. Flanagan, of Owensbooro. Funeral services were conducted from the Anderson Funeral home, Central City, at 5 p.m. Monday, the Rev. Dewey Noffsinger, Mortons Gap, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Paul Logston, of Richardsville. Burial was in Rose Hill Memorial cemetery.

Helm, Sadie M.

Mrs. Sadie M. Helm, 74, of 1919 E. 18th St., died Sunday at Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital. Born in Muhlenberg County the daughter of the late George C. and Effie Miller Devine, she was a member of People's Baptist Church. Her husband, William A. Helm, died in 1963.

Surviving are two sons, George Burge, Owensboro, and William F. Burge, Indianapolis, Ind.; a stepson, John William Helm, Owensboro; a daughter, Mrs. Dean Dossett, Owensboro; four brothers, Bill and Herb Devine, both of Central City; Elmer Devine, Cleaton, and Shelby Devine, Owensboro; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Services 2 p.m. Wednesday at Delbert J. Glenn Funeral Home with the Rev. Harlan Fulks, pastor of People's Baptist Church, officiating. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.

Heltsley, Claude & George Maddox

Two Men Killed At Powderly Mine
Claude Heltsley, 34, and George Maddox, 24, Victims of Slate Fall.

Two young men lost their lives at noon Tuesday when caught by falling slate in the mine of the Greenville Coal Company at Powderly. They were Claude Heltsley, 34 years old and George Maddox, 24 years old, both living at Powderly. They were engaged in repairing a trolley line not far from the main entrance, when falling slate crushed them, and it is thought, killed them instantly.

Their bodies were brought to Greenville to M. B. McDonald, funeral director, and prepared for burial. The double funeral service was held at the Baptist Church at Greenville at 3:20 o'clock Wednesday, the Rev. L. P. Whittaker, of Bremen, in charge. Interment followed in Evergreen cemetery.

The crowd of friends and relatives filled to overflowing the local church and the floral offering was very beautiful.

Heltsley is survived by his widow, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Heltsley, of Powderly, and one sister, Mrs. Lucien Keys, Central City. Twelve years ago a younger brother was accidentally drowned in the lake at Powderly.

Maddox is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Edward Maddox, of Powderly, and four brothers and two sisters.

Heltsley, Dallas Taylor

Powderly - Dallas Taylor Heltsley Sr., 66, died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at his residence following a long illness.

He was a lifelong resident of Muhlenberg County, a retired farmer and a veteran of World War I.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mae Heltsley of Route 2 Central City; two daughters, Mrs. Donald Potter of Greenville and Miss Joan Heltsley of Hopkinsville; son, D. T. Helstley Jr. of Greenville; five brothers, Herbert Heltsley of Nashville, Tenn., Shelby, William, and Eura Heltsley of Louisville, and Leonard Heltsley of Greenville.

Funeral services were held Monday in Greenville. The Rev. A. B. Gross was in charge of services. The Rev. Robert L. Doss assisted. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Greenville.

Heltsley, Estil

Estil Heltsley, 55, Dies in Pittsburgh

Fairmount, W. Va. - Estil Heltsley, 55, of Fairmount, W. Va., died at a hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa. Monday, July 29. He was a former resident of Drakesboro.

Survivors are a daughter and son; two brothers, Arthur Heltsley of Earlington, Ernest Heltsley of West Frankfort, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Randolph Kavanaugh of Corydon and Mrs. Dayton Underwood of Drakesboro.

Heltsley, Mathew Willis

Mathew W. Heltsley, 72, Dies at Rockport

Mathew Willis Heltsley, 72, retired electrician at the Greenville Coal Co., died at his home in Rockport at 1 a.m., Wednesday, January 23.

Mr. Heltsley was born in Muhlenberg County but had lived in Rockport for the past 25 years. He was a member of the Rockport Baptist Church and Drakesboro Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Goldie Heltsley; four sons, John Heltsley, Owensboro; William Heltsley, Louisville; Hugh Heltsley and David Heltsley of Rockport; four daughters, Mrs. Herbert E. Wall, Mrs. Leo Jackson of Owensboro, Mrs. Carl H. Bunker of Louisville, and Mrs. George Miedrich of Kingston, Pa.; 18 grandchildren; two brothers, Henry Floyd Heltsley of Rantoul, Ill., and Grover Heltsley of Penrod.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m., Friday at the residence in Rockport with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Central City.

Heltsley, Samuel Alexander

S.A. Heltsley Dies Suddenly

Death claimed Samuel Alexander Heltsley, 60, 105 West Noel avenue, former councilman, grocery and meat market proprietor, at the Heltsley & Thomas grocery, North Main, at 5:50 o'clock Thursday morning, thirty minutes after he had been stricken with hemorrhage of the brain. He was conscious only ten minutes after the fatal attack. His co-partner, J. A. Thomas, heard Mr. Heltsley's cry for assistance when the latter was stricken in the rear of the store. He aided Mr. Heltsley to lie down near the stove where he expired. Mr. Heltsley had been in ill health for the past year, but had been at this store daily.

Samuel Alexander Heltsley, who was one of the city's most prominent business men, was born near Greenville, Muhlenberg county, April 13, 1865. He came to this city eighteen years ago, engaging in the meat business. Since then he had resided here.

He was a member of the city council for two years, retiring from office more than two years ago. He was a democrat in politics. The deceased had been a member of the Methodist church for years and was also affiliated with the Home of Friends.

Mr. Heltsley was married twice. His first wife was Miss Betty Newman, of Muhlenberg county. Of this union four children were born, three of them surviving, these being Mrs. Stella Farley, Murray, Ky.; Mrs. Ethel Montague, Owensboro, and Mrs. Drue Moore, Victoria. His first wife died twenty seven years ago.

His second wife was Miss Mary Newman, cousin of the first Mrs. Heltsley. She was also a native of Muhlenberg county. Ten children were born of this marriage, eight of whom, with the widow, survive. Mr. Heltsley married his second wife in 1900.

Rufus Heltsley, Newman Heltsley, who is connected with the mechanical department of The Messenger, Fred, David and Jimmy Heltsley, all of this city, are surviving sons, while Mrs. Caroline Thomas, Misses Nell and Frances Heltsley, all of Madisonville, are surviving daughters. Mr. Heltsley is also survived by one brother, Jake Heltsley, of Drakesboro, and two sisters, Mrs. Martha Langley and Mrs. Alice Jackson, also of Drakesboro.

Funeral services will be held at the family residence Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. Leonidas Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows cemetery.

Henderson, Mary B.

Central City - Mrs. Mary B. Henderson of Central City died at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a lingering illness.

She was a native of Adairville, Ky., but she had lived in Central City most of her life. She was a member of the Church of God in Christ.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Susie M. Williams of Central City, and a sister, Mrs. Liza Jane Randolph of Adairville.

Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of God in Christ in Central City, conducted by the Rev. D. A. Reed. Burial will be in the West End Cemetery.

The body is at the Bibbs Funeral Home in Greenville.

Hendrie, Milton D.

Milton Hendrie dies in Chicago

Milton D. Hendrie, 47 years old, a former resident of this city and formerly employed by the Illinois Central RR at the shops here, met instant death in Chicago, April 15 by falling from a window of an apartment where he lived for many years. Mr. Hendrie came to Central City in 1915 and in 1922 was transferred to Princeton, Ky. and married Miss Elsie Phelps of that city. His wife and three children survive. Burial was in Chicago.

Henry, John R.

John R. Henry, 75, Retired Farmer, Dies

John R. Henry, 75, retired farmer and a lifelong resident of Muhlenberg County, died at 1:45 p.m., Saturday following a lingering illness.

Mr. Henry is survived by his wife, Mrs. Connie Henry; three sons, Howard Henry, Central City; Norman Henry, Willis, Mich.; Walter Henry, Adrian, Mich.; four daughters, Mrs. Ruth Kyle, Chicago; Mrs. Virginia Chamberlain, Romulus, Mich.; Mrs. Ida Tooley, Detroit; and Mrs. Mary Glaysbrook, Madisonville; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Maud Cockran, Central City, Nebraska.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. S.A. Kittinger officiating. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery.
