Langford's Station

John Lair, in Rockcastle Recollections: "Langford's Station refered to [by Andre Michaux in his 11 Nov 1793 journal entry] was most likely the old log house which until recent years stood on an embankment just back of the Court House in Mt. Vernon and was for many years known as the Bob McFerron House. It was occupied in the beginning by Stephen Langford, supposed to have been its builder..."

An article in the Mount Vernon Signal, 26 June 1986, said Langford Station was a stopover for stagecoaches and travelers, and that it was also a stopover on the Underground Railroad. Apparently when it was torn down, secret passages were found within the construction which may have been built in with a view to escaping Indian attacks.
