One-car accident kills Ohio miner near Central City.
Central City - A 27-year-old Ohio County miner was killed in a one-car accident 20 miles west of here on Ky. 70 about 8:15 p.m. Saturday.
Kentucky State Police said John Harvey Chapman of Route 1, Beaver Dam, was killed when his car ran off the road and overturned. Further information on the accident was not available yesterday.
Chapman was employed by Peabody Coal Co.'s Sinclair Mine in Muhlenberg County. He was a member of the Kentucky National Guard unit at Hopkinsville and a member of Independence Baptist Church in McHenry.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Brown Chapman, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Chapman, Route 1, Beaver Dam.
Services 2 p.m. Tuesday at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford. Burial in Sunnyside Cemetery. Visitation after 10 a.m. today.
Drakesboro - Sean Carneal Chappel, 18, of Route 1, Drakesboro, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1988, at his home. He was born in Muhlenberg County and was a member of Cleaton Baptist Church.
Survivors include his father, Lannie Carneal of Maryland; his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. John Chappel and a brother, Chad Chappel, all of Route 1, Drakesboro; grandmother, Alma Todd of Belton; and stepgrandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Chappel of Central City.
Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tucker Funeral Home, Central City. Burial in Rose Hill Cmeetery, Central City. Visitation after 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Harrel Chenault
Central City - Mrs. Cleo Chenault, 62, died at her home in Acworth, Ga., Tuesday.
Born in Central City, Oct. 23, 1898, she was a member of the South Carrollton Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Harrel; two half brothers, Gilbert Woodson of Greenville and Arthur Howard Woodson, Akron, Ohio, and a half sister, Mrs. Neba Lee of Greenville.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Tucker Funeral Home here, conducted by the Rev. Bennett Hulse, pastor of the First Methodist Church, Central City, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers - Billy Dennis, Jimmie Eades, Harry Wheeldon Jr., Franklin Downs, Tommy Wilxo and Billy Wheeldon.
The body is at the funeral home.
Services Held for Korea Veteran
The body of Cpl. Charles Leo Childress, 21, arrived in Central City at 4 p.m., Tuesday and was taken to the Anderson Funeral Home to await burial.
Cpl. Childress was killed May 22, 1951.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Wednesday at the Nelson Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. John L. Parker officiating. Burial was in the veteran section of Rose Hill Memorial Cemetery.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Judge Childress; one brother, Ronnie Glenn Childress; three sisters, Mrs. Paula Fay Henderson, Misses Nell Ray Childress and Jannice Childress, all of Central City; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Buck Childress of Paradise, and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Carr, Central City.
Drakesboro - Services were held Monday afternoon in the Smith Funeral Home for Merritt Christian, of Greenville, who died suddenly on Saturday.
He was born in Muhlenberg County and spent most of his life in and around Greenville. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include: a sister, Fannie Wing, a nephew, Jonah Christian, both of Greenville; two nieces, Gertrude Burse, Indianapolis, and Laura Evans, Columbus, O.
Interment was in the West End Cemetery, Greenville.
Death claims 9-year old girl
Shirley Sue Christian dies at Nashville hospital following operation.
Funeral services for Shirley Sue Christian were held at 2:30, Sunday afternoon, April 16, at the Methodist Church, Rev. Wade Weldon, pastor, conducted the services.
Sue Christian, 9-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Christian, of this city, died Friday night, April 14, at the Vanderbilt hospital, Nashville, following a mastoid operation the day before.
Little Sue, who had received treatment in the Madisonville hospital, was removed to her home Saturday, April 8, and was thought to be improving, when a serious attack occurred the following Wednesday night, having to rush her to the Vanderbilt hospital at Nashville.
She is survived by her parents, a grandmother, Mrs. G.F. Christian, and grandfather, C. D. Hughes.
Pallbearers were, James Rice, Lee Jenkins, Gayle Lake, Paul Whitmer.
Interment was in the Fairmount Cemetery.
Browder - Miss Ava Mae Chumley, 32, of Browder, was dead on arrival Friday at Muhlenberg Community Hospital. Born in Muhlenberg County, she was a daughter of Delbert Chumley of Browder and the late Mrs. Ethel Kitchen Chumley.
Surviving besides her father are three brothers, Bill and Harold Chumley, both of Beech Creek, and Robert Chumley, Browder; four sisters, Mrs. Victor Gore, Rochester, Ky.; Mrs. June McGavic, Louisville; Mrs. Jack Lacer, Shepherdsville, and Mrs. Doris Rutherford, Browder, and two half-sisters, Mrs. Hazel Smith, Hammond, Ind., and Mrs. Lillian Jackson, Owensboro.
Services 2 p.m. Monday at Tucker-Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Oda Wright officiating. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. today.
