Cobb, Edith Louise

Central City - Mrs. Edith Louise Cobb, 60, of Route 3 Central City, died yesterday at Muhlenberg Community Hospital. Born in Muhlenberg County, she was a member of Trinity Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Surviving are her husband, Howard Cobb; three sons, Jimmy Cobb, Belton, Robert Cobb, Central City, and Sgt. Elwood Butler, Okinawa; four daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Stewart and Mrs. Betty Goodman, both of Louisville, and Mrs. Donna Barbre and Miss Linda Cobb, both of Central City; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Corbitt Woodriff, Sodus, Mich.; Robert Woodriff, Greenville, and John P. Mencer, Central City; and three sisters, Mrs. Rosie Vaught and Mrs. Gertrude Murphy, both of Central City, and Mrs. Lucille Pierce, Chandler, Ariz.

J.A. Cobb dies at Drakesboro
Funeral services held on February 3rd at Ebenezer Church.

Funeral services for J.A. Cobb, who died at his home near Drakesboro at 4:20 a.m., Friday, February 3, were held at Ebenezer Church at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Gus Stovall of Greenville. Mr. Cobb was born April 13, 1859. At the time of his death his age was 79 years, nine months and 20 days.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mary E. Cobb, one daughter, Mrs. L.H. Stuart of Beech Creek, a brother, Forest R. Cobb of Key West, Fla., and two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Grable of Madisonville and Mrs. Kate Fohl, Fitzgerald, Ga.

Coche, Adrian Blanche

Central City - Mrs. Adrian Blanche Coche of Central City died at Muhlenberg Community Hospital at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Born in Grayson County, she was a member of the Central City United Methodist Church. Survivors include three nieces, Mrs. Minnie Opal Thompson and Mrs. Emma Marie Frank, both of Louisville, and Mrs. Margaret Harrell of Leitchfield; two nephews, Gene and Bill Campbell, both of Central City.

Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home by the Rev. Marshall Owen. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Coche, John J.

Burial Saturday For John J. Coche

John J. Coche, 74, native of Central City, died while shopping in a Louisville grocery store Wednesday, Sept. 25. His body will arrive here Friday on the 3:24 P.M. train.

His funeral will be held in Louisville Friday at 10:00 A.M. and again here at 10:00 A.M. Saturday. Internment will be in the Fairmount Cemetery with the E. J. Anderson Funeral Home in charge. Father Victor Boarman will officiate at the local rites.

Mr. Coche was an employee of the Illinois Central Railroad for 57 years and had been an engineer since 1897 up to the time of his retirement several years ago.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ella Dolan Coche, and three brothers and three sisters. They are: Mrs. W. T. Campbell, Mrs. John Magann, Mrs. V. C. Fortney, Messrs. Hugh E., William D. and Robert T. Coche.

Mr. Coche was born Nov. 8, 1871 in Dawson Springs but spent most of his early life in Central City. He started to work for the IC when only 16 as a hostler and rose to the position of engineer.

Coche, William David

Retired IC Worker Dies in Paducah Hospital

William David Coche, 69, retired Illinois Central Railroad worker, died at 7:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 23, in the IC Railroad Hospital in Paducah.

He was a lifelong resident of Central City, a member of the Central City First Presbyterian Church and the Brotherhood of Railroaders.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Sallile Coche; two sons, Johnny and Bennie Ogden; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Clarence Fortney, Mrs. Nettie Campbell, and Mrs. John Magan; and other brother, Robert Coche, all of Central City.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday morning at 10:15 at the Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe C. Gardner, pastor of the Paducah First Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. Edwin Elliott, pastor of the Central City First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Coffey, James F.

Mrs. Monaghan's Brother, 78, Dies

Lewis, Ind. - James F. Coffey, 78,, died at 7:30 a.m. recently in Veteran's Hospital in Indianapolis.

Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Marie Coffey; three sons, Charles, Lewis and Glen of Pimento Route 1; two daughters, Mrs. Jessie Wellman of Lewis and Mrs. Patty Richie of Terre Haute; brother, Charles of Herrin, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Barnaby of Mishawaka, Ind. and Mrs. Minnie Monaghan of Central City; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Floyd Miller officiated at services and burial was in Stephens Cemetery.

Coffman, Ophelia Shaver

Funeral Services for Mrs. Coffman
Mrs. Ophelia Shaver Coffman, Widow of John W. Coffman, Died Tuesday.

Mrs. Ophelia Shaver Coffman, widow of John W. Coffman, died at her home on Broad Street Tuesday afternoon at 4:50 o'clock, following several weeks illness of complications.

Mrs. Coffman was a member of one of the prominent families of Muhlenberg County, being the daughter of John M. and Katherine Welch Shaver, and was born near Bremen on August 12, 1855. She lived in that community until she reached young womanhood when she married John Will Coffman on October 11, 1871. He preceded her in death on August 24, 1925.

In the year 1911 Mr. and Mrs. Coffman moved to Central City where Mr. Coffman was connected with the drug store of his son, S. K. Coffman up to the date of his death.

Mrs. Coffman was one of the best known women in Central City, where she was greatly loved for her kindness, her charity, her happy, cheerful disposition. She had the wonderful knack of seeing the pleasant, funny side of every situation regardless of its seriousness. She visited the sick and ministered unto their needs, mourned with those in sorrow, but not the first time did she mention her own worries and ailments, not even after she lost her sight several years ago did she mention the fact the first time to any person, simply carried on the same as ever, traveling those places that she knew.

Mrs. Coffman was the mother of three sons, S. K. Coffman, this city, Jesse C. Coffman, Madisonville and Alva Coffman, who died on June 24, 1936. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Mrs. William Eades, this city, Mrs. Hart Brown of Evansville, and Howard Coffman, Hopkinsville, and by two great grandchildren, Howard Coffman Jr., and Mack Coffman, sons of Howard Coffman.

Early in life Mrs. Coffman professed religion and ever and always throughout her four score years lived a consistent Christian life.

Funeral services were conducted this afternoon, Thursday, from the residence, Rev. Wade Weldon having charge of same. Interment was in Fairmount cemetery by the side of her husband.

Coleman, Anna Lara

Depoy - Mrs. Anna Lara Coleman, 67, of Depoy, died yesterday at her home. Born in Muhlenberg County, she was a retired schoolteacher. She had taught 31 years in the Muhlenberg County school system and was a member of Yeargins United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Robert Coleman; a son, Bobby Lloyd Coleman, Greenville, and a grandchild.

Services 2 p.m. today at Gary's Funeral Home, Greenville, with the Rev. Gene Withan officiating. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Depoy. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. today.

Coleman, Ernest

Greenville, Ky. - Ernest “Ace” Coleman, 69, of Greenville, died Tuesday at Muhlenberg Community Hospital. He was born in North Carolina, was a member of Wesley Chapel AME Church and was a retired coal miner.

Survivors include a daughter, Willie Mae Coleman Shuford of Lexington, Ky.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Rev. John Wesley Coleman of Newport News, Va., Howard Coleman of Whitesville, NC, and Vetrice and Herbert Coleman, both of Lumberton, NC, and a sister Mildred Coleman, Jersey City, NJ

Visitation between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Wesley Chapel AME Zion Church. Burial in West End Cemetery, Greenville. Bibbs Funeral Home, Greenville, is in charge of arrangements.

Two Central City Residents Die of Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wounds Saturday

Two Central City residents, a 65-year-old woman and a 70-year-old man died Saturday as the result of self-inflicted gunshot wounds. The tragedies occurred at their homes Saturday.

A. B. Collins, 405 N. Third, is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rena Collins; one son, Malcolm Collins; granddaughter, Miss Sue Collins, Central City; one brother, Leslie Collins, Russellville; three sisters, Mrs. Clara Browning of Russellville, Mrs. Kate Young of New Washington, IN, and Mrs. Leo McPherson, Lewisburg.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., Monday at the grave in the Lewisburg Cemetery with the Rev. Francis Tallant, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Central City, officiating.

Mrs. Claudia Rebecca Glenn, Chestnut Street, was survived by her husband, Robert Glenn, by one day; other survivors include a son, Gilbert Glenn, Owensboro; two brothers, Robert McAlister, Beaumont, TX, and Leo McAlister, Paris, TN; three sisters, Mrs. Jim Gossett, Mrs. Artie Thornton of Lyle, TN and Mrs. Ethel Hamburg of Nashville, TN.

She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Colyer, Avie E.

Central City - Mrs. Avie E. Colyar [Collier, Colyer], 94, of Central City, died Saturday, Oct., 4, 1980, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital, Greenville, She was born in Bonnieville, Ky., was the oldest member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, was president of the Missionary Society, taught Bible class and was a member of the senior choir.

Survivors include a stepson, Arthur Colyar of Brooklyn, NY; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Mary Jesse Williams of Cleveland, Ohio; five stepgrandchildren; and sister, Mrs. Myrtle E. Blevins of Los Angeles; a niece; and a nephew.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Central City. Burial in West End Cemetery, Greenville. Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bibbs Funeral Home, Greenville.

Coomes, Trecia Elizabeth

Mrs. Trecia Elizabeth Coomes, 68, Route 2, Utica, died at Our Lady of Mercy Hosptail at 11:15 p.m. Thursday, following several years illness.

Born in Muhlenberg County, Aug. 6, 1896, she had lived in Daviess County most of her life and was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and its Altar Society.

Surviving are her husband, Edward A. Coomes; four sons, Harold, St. Louis, Lawrence, Jackson, Miss., Richard, Owensboro, Charles, Utica; four daughters, Mrs. Joseph B. Bell, Lancaster, Calif., Mrs. Wilbur Fogle, Utica, Mrs. Armas Waisanen, and Mrs. Clement Hartshorn, both of Dayton, Ohio; 35 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Katie Ayers and a brother, Nevil Mount, both of Owensoboro; a half-sister, Mrs. Flossie Mae Arbuckle, Greenville.

Cleaton - Robert (Red) Cooper, 75, died at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital here Tuesday at 9:35 p.m. following a short illness.

There are no immediate survivors.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Bibbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan Washington, pastor of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church of Cleaton, officiating. Burial will follow at the Powderly Cemetery.

Roy Cornette, 70, Is Buried Monday

Greenville - Roy Cornette, 70, died at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, March 11 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital after an illness of several months. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the First Baptist Church of Greenville.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ella Mae Cornette; three brothers, Elmer of Pueblo, Calif.; Claude of Greenville and Ernest of Clewiston, Fla.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. H. Curtis Erwin officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.

Cotton, Charlie Richard

Tree Limb Kills County Native

Mortons Gap - Charlie Richard Cotton, 60, of Mortons Gap, was killed instantly at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, July 10, while cutting timber on a farm near Anton when a tree limb hit him in the head.

Mr. Cotton was born in Muhlenberg County Feb. 19, 1909, the son of the late Abraham Lincoln and Mary E. DeArmond Cotton. He was a member of Corley's Chapel at Graham.

Surviving are a brother, J. B. Cotton of Mortons Gap; seven sisters, Mrs. Dora Bethel and Mrs. Clarie Shanks, both of Warden, Ill., Mrs. Pearlie Gossett of Central City, Mrs. Effie Strader of Louisville, Mrs. Hessie Piper of Drakesboro, Mrs. Maggie Moore of Nortonville and Mrs. Fairy Bivins of Gary, Ind.; a number of nieces and nephews.

Services were at 2 p.m. Sunday in Madisonville by the Rev. W. T. Crumbaker with burial in Grapevine Cemetery.

He was employed by Ross Brothers of Central City.

Cottrell, Jeremy Lynn

Bremen - Jeremy Lynn Cottrell, 3-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Noble Cottrell of Bremen, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 1989, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital, Greenville. He was born in Muhlenberg County.

Other survivors include maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Eaves of Bremen; paternal grandparents, Frank Cottrell of Hawesville and Faye Cottrell of Central City; and great-grandmothers, Nora Mae Dukes of Powderly, Flora Eaves of Central City, Clare Mae Bradley and Virginia Shemwell, both of Central City.

Services are at 2 p.m. today at Bremen Apostolic Church. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Central City. Visitation 8-11 a.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home, Central City, and from noon to time of services today at the church.

Courtney, Adolph Levi

Central City - Adolph Levi Courtney, 83, died suddnely in his home here Saturday at 6:30 p.m. of a heart attack. He was a retired farmer, born in Muhlenberg County, and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

Surviving are six sons, Kenneth of Cincinnati, Thomas of Birmington, Mich., Malcolm and Leroy, both of Central City, Lloyd of Greenville, and Jack of Atlanta, Ga.; three daughters, Mrs. Lorene Rope of Akron, Ohio, Mrs. Hilda Atherton of Henderson and Miss Gertrude Courtney of Central City; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. (CST) at the Calvary Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. John L. Parker, assisted by the Rev. John Brandon, pastor. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Pallbearers will be nephews. The body is at the Tucker Funeral home here.
