Locke, Eunice

Depoy - Mrs. Eunice Locke, 83, of Depoy, died Monday at Muhlenberg Community Hospital, Greenville. Born in Muhlenberg County, she was a member of Depoy Oak Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Shell Locke.

Surviving are a stepson, R.B. Locke, Detroit, Mich.; three stepgrandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Sally Oates, Greenville.

Services 3 p.m. today at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Noffsinger, pastor, officiating. Burial in Unity Cemetery. Friends may call at Gary Funeral Home, Greenville.

Locke, Shell

Shell Locke, 71, Depoy, dies Dec. 29

Depoy - Shell Locke, 71, a retired miner, died at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital following an illness of several days. Mr. Locke was born in Muhlenberg County in 1888, lived most of his life in Depoy, and was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Eunice Locke of Depoy; son, Richard Locke, of Detroit; grandchild, two half-brothers, John Locke of Central City and Sam Locke of South Bend, Ind.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Dec. 31, at 2 p.m. at the Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. James Vincent officiating, assisted by the Rev. E.E. Spickard. Burial was in Unity Cemetery.

Loney, Grant

Beech Creek, Ky. - Grant Loney, 89, retired farmer, died at the home of daughter, Mrs. Roscoe Hawes, of Beech Creek, at 11:40 a.m. Sunday. Surviving besides Mrs. Hawes, are three other daughters, Mrs. Cindy Cash and Mrs. Lissie Lear, Greenville; and Mrs. Susie King, Central City; three sons, Alvis Loney, Madisonville; Neeley and Faust Loney, Nelson Creek; and 21 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at Corley Chapel, near Graham, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, the Rev. R.O. Jones officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Long, Allie

Louisville - Allie “Nanny” Long, 100, of Louisville, formerly of Cloverport, died Thursday, September 19, 1996, at Masonic Widows & Orphans Home in Louisville. She was born in Paradise, was a member of the Cloverport United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. Her husband, Estel Long, died February 21, 1947; and her son, Charles Burr Long, in 1975.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Mackey of Louisville and Juana Lou Brickey of Valley Station; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday at Cloverport Cemetery. Wallace Funeral Home in Cloverport is in charge or arrangements.

Long, James William

Central City - James William Long, 93, of Central City, died yesterday at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.

Born in Cherokee, N.C., he was a retired miner and a member of Cleaton Baptist Church.

Surviving are a sons, Robert E. Long, Drakesboro; a daughter, Mrs. Onie Harper, Central City; a brother, Walter Long, Kirkmansville; a sister, Mrs. Clara Mosely, White Plains; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tucker Funeral Home, Central City, with the Rev. Gerald Jones, pastor of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, and the Rev. W.R. Cook, pastor of First Baptist Church, Central City, officiating. Burial in Peanut Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10:30 a.m. today.

Longest, Amy M.

Miss Amy Longest, 86, Ex-Superintendent, Dies

Greenville - Miss Amy M. Longest, one of Muhlenberg County's most outstanding educators, died August 31 at the age of 86 in Muhlenberg Community Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Longest, Lee J. Sr.

Central City, Ky. - Word has been received here of the death of Lee J. Longest, 73, who died Saturday at St. Cloud, Fla., after a long illness.

He operated a grocery store in Muhlenberg County for several years, prior to going to Florida. He was a member of the Drakesboro Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Hazel Longest; a son, Lee J. Jr., of Chenault, Kansas; four sisters, Mrs. A.J. Mercer of Central City, Miss Amy Longest, Washington, DC, Mrs. George Constant, Bradenton, Fla., and Mrs. Laura Boulineau, Havana, Ga.

Services and burial will be in a Chenault, Kans., cemetery.

Lovan, William Thomas

Greenville - William Thomas Lovan, 62, of Route 3, Greenville, died Monday, Aug. 20, 1984, at his home. He was born in Hopkins County, was a veteran of World War II, was a retired coal miner, and was a member of the Methodist Church, Crofton.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Ellen Lovan; four sons, William, Paul, Cowan and Vincent Lovan, all of Crofton; three daughters, Mrs. Margaret Merriweather of Drakesboro, Vivian Lovan of Hopkinsville and Dorita Lovan of Nortonville; his mother, Mrs. Margaret Lovan of Nortonville; three stepsons, Sylvester Tutt of Columbus, Ind>, and Henry and Hassell Tutt, both of Greenville; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Gwenetta Murphy and Mrs. Mary Saulsberry, both of Greenville, and Mrs. Martine Sayres of Windsor, Conn.; 18 stepgrandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Beulah McNary of Nortonville.

Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Friday at White Plains Cemetery, White Plains. Visitation from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Wesley Chapel AME Zion Church, Greenville. Bibbs Funeral Home, Greenville, is in charge of arrangements.

Love, Jane

Death of Mrs. Jane Love.

Mrs. Jane Love, in her 78th. year, died at her home in the east end at 12.45 o'clock last Friday afternoon, from a complication of ailments due to her age, and which for the past four months confined her to her bed. Deceased was the widow of the late Col. S.P. Love, who was loved by every member of the 11th, Ky. Vol. Inft. of which he was commander, and she was a woman who had friends in all who knew her. She was the mother of eleven children, nine of whom survive: Mrs. Nannie Moseley, Graham; Mrs. Mary B. Yonts and Mrs. Annie R. White, of this city, Mrs. Buella C. Nunan, of Gurdon, Ark., Mrs. Jennie Love Young and Mrs. Ada M. Gossett, of Louisville, Mrs. Lucy A. Vomburg, of Central City, and Mrs. Saddie T. Hillebert, of Wynnewood, Ok. Besides there are twenty grandchildren and one great grandchild, together with numerous other relatives. The family has lived here since February, 1866. Funeral services were conducted at the home at 3 o' clock Sunday afternoon, and a large number of friends gathered to show respect, and followed the body to Evergreen cemetery, where interment was made beside the body of her husband.

Love, Lucian T.

Lucian T. Love, youngest son of S.P. Love, died in Evansville, Ind. last Thursday morning from the effects of a wound received by being knocked from a train by a coal schute last August. He had one leg so crushed at the time as to require amputation. He had partially recovered from this but a wound on the head had never healed and from this he died. He was brought to this place and buried on the 4th in Evergreen Cemetery, Rev. M.B. Porter conducting the services. He left a wife and one child about two years old, who with the members of his father's family here will have the kindly sympathy of all.

Lowe, William D.

Two deaths at hospital.
One patient from Muhlenberg and the other from Carlisle.

Miss Carrie Foster, a patient at the Western State Hospital from Carlisle county, died yesterday morning of cerebral disease, aged nineteen years. She had been here about two weeks. The remains were shipped to Bardwell Tuesday afternoon.

William D. Lowe, a patient from Muhlenberg county, died yesterday of paresis, aged 70 years. He was received here about two years ago. The body was shipped to Central City last night.
