McAdoo, Fred

Negro Veteran Dies at Nichols Hospital

Fred McAdoo, 36, Negro, Cleaton, died Tuesday, December 18 at the Nichols General Hospital in Louisville. He was a veteran of World War II and served with the Marine Corps.

Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe McAdoo, Cleaton, and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Cleaton, the Rev. C.L. Jones, pastor, officiating.

McCandless, A.J.

A.J. McCandless, 80, died Tuesday at his home in Central City. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Green's Chapel, by the Rev. J.C. Gary, of Greenville. Burial was in the church cemetery. Surviving are his wife and seven children.

McCandless, Hettie Florence

Central City - Mrs. Hettie Florence McCandless, 78, of Central City died at Muhlenberg Community Hospital, Greenville, at 8 a.m. Sunday. Born in Muhlenberg County, June 6, 1891, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Central City.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Martha McCandless Butler of Huntsville, Ala.; one son, Dan McCandless of Highland, Ind.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today at the Tucker Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. W.R. Cook of the First Baptist Church of Central City. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

McCandless, Otha W.

Greenville - O.W. McCandless, 72, died at 6 p.m. Tuesday at his home on W. Main Cross, Greenville.

Born in Grayson County, he operated a dry cleaning business in Cleaton in 1917, and came to Greenville in 1921, where he operated the Unique Cleaners until his retirement in 1956. He was a member of the Pond River Masonic Lodge No. 244, F&AM, and a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mae McCandless, Greenville; one daughter, Mrs. John T. Reynolds, Greenville; one son, Victor McCandless, also of Greenville; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and four brothers, Elgan and Edgar McCandless, both of Charleston, W. Va., and Luther and Jess McCandless, both of Central City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Gary's Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. A. B. Gross, assisted by the Rev. H. Curtis Erwin, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery.

The body is at the funeral home.

McCandless, Zecie Brenice

Greenville - Zecie Brenice McCandless, 85, of Greenville died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Greenville. She was born in Muhlenberg County and retired from a family-owned dry cleaning business. Her husband, Victor C. McCandless, died March 17, 1993.

Survivors include a son, Jerry C. McCandless of Owensboro; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Private services will be held. Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro is in charge of the arrangements. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St. Luke Episcopal Church in Cannelton, Ind. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

McCormick, Paul Joseph

Rockport, Ky. - Paul Joseph McCormick, 79, of Rockport, died Monday at Muhlenberg Community Hospital. Born in Daviess County, he was a retired farmer and a member of Mercer Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lucy Belle McCormick; a son, Jerald McCormick, Rockport; four daughters, Mrs. Christine Becker and Mrs. Vivian Rhinehardt, both of Evansville, Ind.; Mrs. Grace McGuire, Morgantown, and Mrs. Ann Dunn, Rockport; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, James McCormick, Owensboro, and a sister, Mrs. Irene Shelton, Owensboro.

Services 11 a.m. Thursday at Tucker Funeral Home, Central City, with the Rev. Ora DeArmond, pastor of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, officiating. Burial in Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. today.

Greenville - Lillie Bell McCown, 82, of 108 Walnut St., Greenville, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1987, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital. She was born in McLean County and was a member of Wesley Chapel AME Zion Church, Greenville.

Survivors include two sons, William H. McCown of Greenville and Samuel McCown of Louisville; a daughter, Mrs. Ernestyne Robinson of Greenville; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Hazel Render of Rockford, Ill.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services are at 1 p.m. today at Wesley Chapel AME Zion Church, Greenville. Burial in West End Cemetery, Greenville. Mason and Sons Funeral Home, Madisonville, is in charge of arrangements.

McCown, Lois Ann

Greenville - Lois Ann McCown, 38, died at 2:02 a.m. Wednesday at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital.

A native of Muhlenberg County and a member of the First Baptist Church, she is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louie McCown, one son, Jeffrey Lynn Nichols; one sister, Mrs. Ernestine Robinson; three brothers, W. H. McCown of Greenville, Printice McCown of Cincinnati, and Samuel McCown of Louisville.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. today from the First Baptist Church with the Rev. M. A. Dykes conducting the service, assisted by the Rev. H. L. Hall. Burial will be in the West End Cemetery.

The body is at the Bibbs Funeral Home.

Robert McCown, of Muhlenberg county, died at the Western State Hospital of chronic dysentery, aged 53 years. He had been in the institution about three months. The body was shipped to Greenville yesterday.

McCoy, Charles Sanford

Charles S. McCoy, 77, of 217 Center Street, died Wednesday at Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital. born in Stewart County, Tenn., a son of the late W.W. and Betty Joiner McCoy, he was a retired coal miner and a member of Wing Avenue Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Evelyn McCoy; a son, Roy McCoy, Maryville, Ind.; a stepson, Raymond Conway, Owensboro; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Louise Hite and Mrs. Mildred English, both of Owensboro; two brothers, William McCoy, Owensboro, and Clarence McCoy, Largo, Fla., and two sisters, Mrs. Andrew Jackson, Greenville, and Mrs. Lewis Dukes, Powderly.

Motor of mine claims victim, crushing him
Frank McCoy steps in front of heavy power car, which cuts off leg, mashes other

Central City, Ky., March 9 - Frank McCoy, 25, coal digger at the Holt mine, at Cleaton, three miles from this city, was killed at 2 o'clock by the motor of the pit, which is owned by the Gibraltar Coal company. It is on the L&N railroad.

McCoy stepped in front of the motor, which was dragging a string of cars, and was knocked down and one leg cut off clean, while the other was mashed. He regained consciousness for a short period and talked with those in the mine getting him from under the heavy motor, but when the motor finally was lifted from his crushed leg, he died in the arms of another miner.

McCoy is survived by his widow, who was Miss Sallie Fentress, and one child. The body was removed from the mine and to his home here and will be buried tomorrow in the cemetery here.

Mrs. Charles McCoy, 68, Buried May 6

Mrs. Hattie McCoy, 68, died at the Hopkins County Hospital in Madisonville at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 4.

She was born in Muhlenberg County on June 6, 1898 and was a member of the Woodson Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Charles McCoy of Central City Route 3; two sons, J. W. and Charles Harper of Evansville; daughter, Mrs. Juanita Maddox of Central City Route 3; brother, Frank Jackson of Central City Route 3; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Woodson Baptist Church, with the Rev. Houston Noffsinger officiating. Burial was in the Coleman Cemetery.

Mrs. Mattie Elizabeth McCoy, 78, of Central City, died Monday, May 2, at 9:30 p.m. in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital. She was born in Ohio County on April 18, 1888.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. James Tucker of Powderly and Mrs. Elmer Slinker of Central City; two sons, Edward Foley Stevens of Evansville and Roy Lee Stevens of Illinois; 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; three step-daughters, Mrs. Lewis Dukes of Central City, Mrs. Andrew Jackson of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Mrs. Carroll Hearin of Evansville; three stepsons, Charles McCoy of Central City, Clarence McCoy of Cheswick, Pa., and William W. McCoy of Owensboro; two brothers, Charlie Shoulders of Central City and Lewis Shoulders of California; one half-sister, Mae Clark of Murfreesboro, Tenn.

Services will be today (Thursday) at 1 p.m., the Rev. Ora DeArmond in charge, assisted by the Rev. Houston Noffsinger. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.

Richard McCoy, 78, Dies Feb. 24

Richard (Dick) W. McCoy, 78, of Central City, died in Muhlenberg Community Hospital Sunday, Feb. 24 at 7 a.m.

Born in Butler County Sept. 22, 1895, he was a retired miner and a member of Forest Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary McCoy of Central City; two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Nell Bailey of Sturdivent, Mo. and Mrs. Martha Frances Hawker of Woodbury, Tenn.; son, Charles McCoy of Martwick; two step-sons, John W. Baggett of Houston, Texas and Henry C. Baggett of Evansville; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth and Lewis McCoy of Nashville; sisters, Mrs. Hallie Fulkerson of Central City.

Funeral services were Tuesday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Joe Davis in charge, assisted by the Rev. Ronald Burnette. Burial was in Forest Grove Cemetery.

Roy E. McCoy, 63, of 114 Church St., Maceo, died Thursday, March 7, 1991, in Owensboro. He was born in Central City, was a computer operator for LTV Steel before retiring, and was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Hall McCoy; three sons, Ronald Hall of Maceo, Barry Hall of Owensboro and Donald Hall of Newburgh, Ind.; two daughters, Janet Boone of Maceo and Susan Summers of Owensboro; and 10 grandchildren.

Services are at 7 p.m. today at James H. Davis Funeral Home. Burial in Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, Ind., where graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. CST Saturday. Visitation from 1-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

William W. McCoy, 71, 1627 Mayo Ave., Owensboro, died Tuesday, April 24, 1984, at Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital. He was born in Mortons Gap, was a retired painter for Medley Distilling Co., and was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Opal McCoy&59; four sons, Ralph McCoy of Owensboro, Jimmy McCoy of Merrillville, Ind., Raymond Earl McCoy of Brazil, Ind., and Gerald McCoy of Madisonville; a daughter, Donna Horn of Maceo; 23 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dolly Jackson of Greenville and Mabel Young of Powderly.

Central City - William Warren McCoy, 84, died at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital at Greenville, Saturday, October 6. He was a retired miner born in Tennessee.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mattie McCoy, Central City; three daughters, Mrs. Lewis Dukes, Route 2, Central City, Mrs. Andrew Jackson, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and Mrs. Carol Hearin, Evansville, Indiana; three sons, Charles McCoy, Route 1, Central City, Clarence McCoy, Cheswick, Pennsylvania, and William W. McCoy Jr., Owensboro; two step-daughters, Mrs. James Tucker, and Mrs. Elmer Slenker, both of Route 1, Central City; two step-sons Foley Stevens, Evansville, Indiana and Roy Stevens, Lovington, Illinois, 42 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.

Central City - Mrs. Hettie McDonald, 87, of Central City, died Saturday, June 4, 1983, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Evansville, Ind. She was born in Muhlenberg County and was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include five sons, Austin and Jimmie McDonald, both of Evansville, Edsel McDonald, of Owensboro, Houston McDonald, of Mayfield and Harold McDonald, of Louisville; two daughters, Mrs. Opal Moore, of Greenville and Faye McDonald, of Owensboro; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services are at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation after 5 p.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home, Central City.

Powderly - Oscar McDowell, 73, of Powderly, died Saturday at Muhlenberg Community Hospital. Born in Muhlenberg County, he was a retired miner and a member of Powderly Baptist Church and Pond River Lodge 244 F&AM.

Surviving are two nieces, Mrs. Connie Bryant, Powderly, and Mrs. Harland Jewell, Central City.

John Lewis McElwain, 70, died Monday at his home in Depoy. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at Oak Grove Baptist church, Depoy, and burial was in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, a son, Gratzy McElwain, of Depoy; four daughters, Mrs. Ethel McKinney, Evansville, Ind., Mrs. Velma Bryant and Mrs. Blanche Frederick, both of Hammond, Ind., and Mrs. Clara Foster, of Depoy.

13-Year-Old Girl Dies At Owensboro Hospital

Nina McGee, 13 years old, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Porter McGee, of Martwick, died at the Owensboro hospital at 4:20 o'clock Tuesday morning. The body was removed to Martwick for burial.

Central City - Jimmie R. McGehee, 60, of Central City, died yesterday at Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital. Born in Todd County the son of the late Rev. Ada and Carrie McGehee, he operated a retail clothing store in Central City. He was a member of Second Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Cordelia McGehee; a son, Tommy McGehee; a stepmother, Mrs. Missie McGehee; a sister, Mrs. Paul Lovie Mitchell, and three grandchildren, all of Owensboro.

J.B. McGuyer, 82, Dies May 19

Cleaton - John Benjamin McGuyer, 82, died Friday, May 19 at 10 p.m. in St. Joseph's Hospital in Huntingburg, Ind.

He was born in Muhlenberg County Jan. 1, 1890 and was a retired miner.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Minnie McGuyer of Cleaton: two sons, Hoyt McGuyer of Santa Claus, Ind. and Maurice McGuyer of Ft. Bragg, N.C.; four daughters, Miss Chrstine McGuyer and Mrs. Renavea Stephenson of Dale, Ind., Mrs. Nadine Oliver and Mrs. Jean Simpson of Evansville; 19 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Andy McGuyer and Robert McGuyer of Cleaton, Eck McGuyer of Morgantown and Emmitt McGuyer of Mayfield.

Funeral services were Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Central City by the Rev. Royce Wilkerson, pastor of the Church of the Nazerine in Evansville. Burial was in Miller Cemetery.

McIntosh, Isaac

Belton farmer takes own life with shot gun
Isaac McIntosh's funeral services held Saturday; With burial at Penrod

Isaac McIntosh, 49 years old, a farmer residing three miles from Belton, committed suicide at 8:15 o'clock last Friday morning, according to a death certificate issued by Coroner Lonnie Bryan, who held an inquest over the body.

The contents of a 12-guage shotgun entered his body below his heart. Death was instantaneous. Mr. McIntosh became despondent as a result of ill health.

Funeral services were held Saturday. Burial was at Penrod.

Surviving are his widow and seven children, four of whom lived at home.

Luzerne, Oct. 5. - Mrs. Mabel Corley McIntosh, 26 years old, wife of J.T. McIntosh of this community died at the Owensboro city hospital last night. Surviving are the husband, a daughter Mary Evelyn and two sons: Neal and Walter. Her father, W.L. Corley and four sisters also survive. Funeral services were held at the home at Luzerne this afternoon. Interment was in Graham cemetery.

McIntyre, Fannie

Central City - Mrs. Fannie McIntyre, 73, died at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital, Greenville, at 6 p.m. Monday. She was born May 10, 1895, in Ohio County, and was a member of Cleaton Baptist Church.

Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Ermin Parris, Owensboro; one brother, Harlan Harris of Jeffersonville, Ind., and a niece, Mrs. Elizabeth Stewart of Central City, who was a foster daughter of Mrs. McIntyre.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. at the Tucker Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Leonard Young, and the Rev. R. D. Mize, with burial in Lone Star Cemetery in Ohio County.

The body is at the funeral home.

McLemore, J.H.

J.H. McLemore, 79, Dies at Beech Creek

J.H. “Jim” McLemore, 79, of Beech Creek, died suddenly at his home Tuesday following a heart attack. He has been a resident of Beech Creek for 34 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ida Stringer McLemore; four sons, C.E. McLemore, Beechmont, merchant; Otto McLemore of Evansville; Kenneth McLemore of Russellville; and Paul McLemore, superintendent of schools at Swanton, Ohio; one grandson, Guy Gene McLemore; one granddaughter, Miss Shayron McLemore of Swanton, Ohio; and a sister, Mrs. Mary Fields of Hampshire, Tex.

Funeral arrangements have not been completed pending the arrival of relatives. The body was taken to the Parker-Washburne-Pannell Funeral Home in Beech Creek.

McNeil, Rachel

Mrs. Rachel M'Neil died Friday at her home on Center St.
Funeral services held Saturday afternoon for long-time resident of Central City.

Funeral serivces for Mrs. Rachel McNeil, city, were conducted at 5:15 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the grave in Fairmount Cemetery by the Rev. C.C. England, pastor of the First Christian Church, of which she was a member.

Mrs. McNeil, who had been in declining health for some time, was stricken ill several days after returning home from Anchorage several weeks ago, where she had spent the summer with her son, Dr. William McNeil, passed away at 1:30 o'clock Friday afternoon, September 9, at her residence in Center Street. Death was attributed to bronchial pneumonia.

Mrs. McNeil, 78 years old, was born March 12, 1860, and had been a citizen of Central City for many years.

Surviving are the following children: Miss Mae McNeil, Chicago; Mrs. Dennie Denman of Columbus, Ohio; Mrs. Henry Bowling of Knoxville, Tenn., and Dr. William McNeil of Anchorage.

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth McPherson died at her home in the Carter's Creek section, December 27. Funeral services, conducted by Gus Stovall, of Greenville, were held last Saturday at Carter's Creek church. Surviving are her husband, John McPherson, and nine children.

Agnes McReynolds, 74, Dies Aug. 19
Drakesboro - Mrs. Agnes McReynolds, 74, of Drakesboro, died Tuesday, Aug. 19 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.

Born in Muhlenberg County, she was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Survivors include a brother, Vernon Woods of Akron, Ohio.

Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church, Drakesboro. Burial was in Rochester Cemetery.

McReynolds, John T.

Drakesboro - John T. McReynolds, 70, died Sunday at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital. He was a member of the St. Paul AME Zion Church and served on the official board.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Agnes McReynolds of Drakesboro.

Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's with the Rev. Dunlap of Russellville officiating. Burial will be in the Rochester Cemetery.
