Mrs. H. Thornton died Sunday at home in city
Funeral services for Mrs. Amanda Thornton held Tuesday afternoon.
Mrs. Amanda Thornton, widow of Harry Thornton, died on Sunday afternoon at 3:15 o'clock at her home on Peters Street following a week's illness of bronchial pneumonia.
Mrs. Thornton was the daughter of Louis Arnold and Sarah Perkins Arnold and was a native Kentuckian, being born on March 10, 1853, and had she lived until the 10th of next month would have been 86 years old, probably the oldest resident of Central City.
When quite a young girl she married Harry Thornton, an Englishman from London, who passed away a few years ago after more than 50 years of happy married life. To this union five children were born, four of whom survive: Mrs. Pat H. McDowell, this city; Mrs. Lula Archer of Louisville, Thomas Thornton and William Thornton, Hammond, Ind.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the residence by Rev. James Thompson of the Presbyterian Church, of which church she had been a loyal, consistent member since a child.
Mrs. Thornton had, during her long life in Central City, made a host of friends by her cheerful, kindly disposition, many of whom assembled at her home to pay their last tribute of respect to this very good woman.
Interment was in Fairmount cemetery by the side of her husband, in the family burial plot of the Thornton family.
