Henry County's History

Henry County was the 26th county formed in Kentucky, coming into existence on June 15, 1799 from a portion of Shelby County. In 1990 the population was 12,823 in a land area of 289 square miles, an average of 44.4 people per square mile. The county seat is New Castle.

The Henry County "Brick Wall"

I have received so many requests for help with research that I decided to copy an idea from my friend Bonnie Snow, in Pendleton County! On this page, I will post all queries that I receive for family info. Hopefully, this will help our visitors who are looking for that "elusive" ancestor! If you want to post a query here, just let me know. Please keep your requests small and limit them to no more than two people!

This County is dedicated to a man, who followed his dream... and made it a reality.

In Memory Of : JEFF DONALD MURPHY, 1947 - 2001, of Redmond, Deschutes County, OR, born in Bowling Green, Warren Co., KY, son of Powell Davis Murphy and Marjorie (Morrison) Murphy. Jeff was the founder of the KYGenWeb, USGenWeb, USBIOGRAPHIES and co-founder of KYBIOGRAPHIES.

About the USGenWeb Project

In December, 1995, Jeff Murphy created what was to be the first county page in the USGenWeb Project, with his Muhlenburg County homepage. In March and April, 1996, he and a group of other genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database Project, which soon changed it's name to the USGenWeb! The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky, where collected databases could be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located within the index.

At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page. Since that time, the project has ballooned and encompassed the whole world, with the creation of the WorldGenWeb.

If you are interested in becoming a county coordinator, contact Nancy Trice, USGenWeb State Coordinator.
