Central City - Luther A. Emery, 86, died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital. He was born Sept. 7, 1882, in Fentress County, Tenn., and was a member of the General Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Joe Wallace, Westminster, Calif., and Mrs. Melvin Evitts of Central City; one son, Harry Thorn Emery of Englewood, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
Serivces will be held at 2 p.m. today [Tuesday] at the Tucker Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Richard Ramsey, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The body is at the funeral home.
Henderson, Ky. - Rev. Courtney C. England, 42, former pastor of the First Christian church in Henderson, died at 2 o'clock Friday morning at his home in Eldon, Mo., it was learned here Friday.
At the time of his death he was pastor of the Eldon Christian church, asusming that pastorate a little more than a year ago. He was pastor at Central City, before coming here.
Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock this afternoon at the Eldon church. Burial will be at Smith's Grove, Ky., near Bowling Green, where he formerly resided.
Survivors include the wife, Frances; a son, John Russell; two daughters, Ann Courtney and Nancy Page; his mother and two brothers, of Kansas City.
Drakesboro - Carl Jackson Engler, 85, died at 1:40 p.m. Wednesday in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital following a short illness. He was a retired miner.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Era Bell Johnston of Drakesboro, and Mrs. Elizabeth Morris of Seth, W. Va.; four sons, Virgil Engler of Drakesboro, Burnett Engler of St. Louis, Mo., Elvis Engler of Dunmor and Royce Engler of Chicago, Ill.; 21 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Zill Cooper of Hopkinsville, and a brother, Virgil Engler of Auburn.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. (CST) Friday at Drakesboro Baptist Church with the Rev. Leon Chilton, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rochester Cemetery.
The body is at the Parker-Washburne-Pannell Funeral Home.
Murk V. Epley, 88, To Be Buried Friday
Murk V. Epley, 88, a retired miner and resident of Beech Creek, died Tuesday, May 27, at 3:40 p.m. in Muhlenberg Community Hospital following an illness of several months.
He was born Sept. 16, 1880 in Logan County and was a member of Leigh's Chapel Baptist Church.
Surviving are four sons, Larry Epley of Beech Creek, Maylon Epley of Louisville, Raymond Epley of Palmyra, Ind. and L.A. Epley of Chicago; three daughters, Mrs. Beulah Hall, Mrs. Willie Robinson and Mrs. Bessie White, all of Louisville; 44 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Leigh's Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. William Mallory officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. J. T. Epley, 64, Dies Sept. 18 In Union Ridge
Mrs. Sarah Viola Epley, 64, wife of J. T. Epley, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Oscar Stinson, in Union Ridge Wednesday, Sept. 18 after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 20, at 2:00 P.M., at Leigh Chapel with Rev. William Mallory, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial was in the Jackson Cemetery. Parker and Washburne Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, J. T. Epley; three sons, Broadus, of Loda, Ill., Watson, of Toledo and Elmer, of Elgin Field, Ill.; three daughters, Mrs. Oscar Stinson, of Union Ridge, Mrs. Flora Blaker, of Toledo, and Mrs. Nora Jones, of Dunmor.
