J.R. Myers, 83, Dies At Home In Rockport
John Robert Myers, 83, a retired coal miner, died at his home in Rockport, Sunday, October 25, at 10:30 a.m., following an extended illness.
Mr. Myers was a native of Muhlenberg County, born December 12, 1880, son of the late John Martin and Alice Buchanan Myers. He was a member of the Cool Springs Baptist Church.
On December 8, 1903 he was married to Miss Maud Hartley, who preceded him in death on May 20, 1920.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Minnie Key, of Christmas, Florida, Mrs. Sarah Clark, of Dayton, Ohio, and Mrs. Lee Clark, of Rockport; three sons, John Martin Myers, of Evansville, Indiana, Gilbert Myers, of Drakesboro, and Harvey Myers, of Gary, Indiana; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charlie and Hugh Myers, both of Evansville; two step-daughters, Misses Elma and Ethel Harrell, and two stepsons, Byron and Henry Harrell, all of Indiana.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 27, at the Echols General Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bob Beckett, pastor of Rockport Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in the Echols Cemetery. Grandsons served as pallbearers.
The Cecil Chinn Funeral Home, McHenry, directed arrangements.
