Rager, Catherine

Mrs. Homer Lee Rager
Central City - Mrs. Catherine Rager, 32, of Hammond, Ind., died at St. Margaret Hospital there at 2:45 a.m. Friday, after a long illness. She was born March 7, 1936, in Muhlenberg County and was a member of First Baptist Church, Hammond.

Surviving are her husband, Homer Lee Rager, Hammond, a daughter, Rohanda Reshell Rager, and a son, Timothy Lee Rager, both at home; parents, Howard Smith of Chicago, and Mrs. Irene Taylor, also of Chicago; four brothers, Genen and Leonard Smith, both of Chicago, Jackie and Sammy Smith of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Juanita Edwards and Mrs. Dolda Evitts, both of Hammond.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Parker-Washbur-Pannell Funeral Home, Central City, conducted by the Rev. Roy Geary, with burial in Cherry Hill Cemetery.

The body is at the funeral home.

Rager, Edgar A.

Greenville - Edgar A. Rager, 66, died at 1 p.m. Thursday at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. He was born Jan. 22, 1905, in Muhlenberg County and was a retired carpenter.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marie Rager; one daughter, Mrs. Margie Mayes, Hillsboro, Ind.; two sons Edgar Rager Jr., Los Gatos, Calif., and Billy Rager, Saratoga, Calif.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Ray Settle, Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Bonnie Shelton, LaFayette, Ind.; and three brothers, Mose Rager, Drakesboro, Lyman Rager and Junior Rager, both of Pontiac, Mich.

Services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Gary's Funeral Home by the Rev. Rufus Staples. Burial was in the Friendship Cemetery, Greenville.

Rager, Lyman

Beechmont - Lyman Rager, 59, Pontiac, Mich., died Tuesday at his home. A retired miner, he was a member of Evansville Church of Christ Chapel.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Rager; a son, Jerry Mosley Rager, U.S. Navy; two daughters, Karen Bruce, Beechmont, and Sherry Termarsch, Pontiac; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Mose Rager, Drakesboro, and J.R. Rager, Pontiac, and a sister, Dolsie Suttles, Detroit.

Services were 2 p.m. yesterday at Tucker-Beechmont Chapel, Beechmont. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery, Drakesboro.

Rager, Moses

Country music pioneer Rager dies.
Moses “Mose” Rager, who was credited with teaching Merle Travis how to thumbpick a guitar, died Wednesday at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He was 75.

Rager, Odell

Greenville - Odell Rager, 57, of Route 3, Greenville, died Monday at his home. He was born in Todd County.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Beatice Rager, Cicero, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. Bobbie Evans, Cicero; two grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Ruby Sherrill, Chicago.

Services 1 p.m. today at Gary's Funeral Home, Greenville, with the Rev. Fred Fox officiating. Burial in Friendship Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.

Rainwaters, Michael N.

Drakesboro - Michael N. Rainwaters, 49, of Evansville died Monday, Sept. 15, 1997, in Grandview, Ind. He was born in Muhlenberg County and was a member of First Baptist Church in Drakesboro. He was employed as a carrier by the U.S. Postal Service and was an Army veteran.

Survivors include his former wife, Betty Peters of Evansville; two daughters, Julie Kay Wolfe and Krista D. Knight, both of Evansville; four grandchildren; his mother, Mary Rainwaters of Drakesboro; two brothers, Morris Rainwaters of Hopkinsville and Billy Rainwaters of White House, Tenn.; and four sisters, Debra Boyd of Central City, Carolyn Lear of Drakesboro, Pamela Casebier of Newburgh, Ind., and Melissa Dene of Bowling Green.

Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be Thursday in Highway Cemetery in Drakesboro. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at National Association of Letter Carriers Union in Evansville.

Raley, Nettie Mae

Central City - Mrs. Nettie Mae Raley, 68, of Beaver Dam, died at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Ohio County Hospital, Hartford. Mrs. Raley was born Jan. 26, 1900 in Butler County and was a member of Cleaton Baptist Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. E. M. Pierce, Beaver Dam, Mrs. Otis Tucker and mrs. Henry Triplett, both of Louisville; three sons, Hardin Geary of Cleveland, Miss., Andy Geary, Louisville, and Carl E. Geary, Chicago, Ill.; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Johnny Heath, Central City; one brother, Andy Bryant, Jackson, Tenn.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Tucker Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. R.D. Mize, pastor of Cleaton Baptist Church, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The body is at the funeral home.

Randolph, Richard Wayne

Greenville Man Killed in Viet
Greenville - Word has been received that Spec. 4C Wayne Randolph, 25, of Greenville, was killed in Vietnam Monday.

Randolph had been in Vietnam since February, 1968, and was to have been discharged in March, 1969.

Randolph was the fourth Muhlenberg County casualty of the Vietnam conflict.

Survivors include his widow, Marie, of Nevada, and his mother, Mrs. Margaret Randolph of Greenville.

The body will be returned to Greenville for services and burial.

Richard Randolph of Greenville Killed in Vietnam
Greenville - Word has been received of the death of Army Spec. 4 Richard Wayne Randolph, 24, who was killed on active duty in Vietnam in December. He was serving with the 1st Cavalry, and had served in Vietnam since February, 1968. He was to be discharged in March, 1969.

He was born in Muhlenberg County on Jan. 22, 1944.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Marie Randolph of Jonesboro, Ark.; his mother, Mrs. Margaret Randolph, of Greenville; two sisters, Mrs. Barbara Maxwell of Macon, Mo., and Miss Joetta Randolph of Greenville; one brother, John, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Lee, all of Greenville.

The body will arrive at the Gary Funeral Home at 6 p.m. Saturday. Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Roland Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Marvin Freeman, pastor of the church. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Military rites will be held at graveside.

Ray, Cherry

Mrs. Hurshel Ray, 45, Ex-Countian, Dies

Sacramento - Mrs. Cherry Ray, 45, Sacramento Route 1, died at 4:45 p.m. Monday at the Hopkins County Hospital in Madisonville after a long illness.

She was born Aug. 24, 1915, in Muhlenberg County.

Survivors include her husband, Hershel Ray, Sacramento; three daughters, Mrs. Norman Harper, Central City, Mrs. Gerald Abrams, Assara, Kans., and Miss Gaye Ray, Sacramento; four brothers, Robert and E.T. Drake, both of Bremen, Barnes Drake, Owensboro, and Hobert Drake, Maceo; four grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Calhoun.

Burial was in Station Cemetery in McLean County.

Ray, F. Millard

F. Millard Ray taken by death
Funeral services held Tuesday afternoon at Semiway in McLean County.

F. Millard Ray, 74 years old, died at his home on North First Street at 6:30 o'clock last Sunday evening after a week's illness. He had been in declining health for some time, but his condition was not considered serious until about a week before his demise. He was born February 27, 1865.

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon from the New Cypress Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Semiway by Rev. Mr. Meadows and Rev. Shanks. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Surviving are his widow and four children, Thomas Ray, Elbert Ray and Shelton Ray, all of this city, and Mrs. Bessie Ray Stewart of Akron, Ohio; and a sister, Mrs. Nannie Mackey of Popular Grove; also several grandchildren.

Ray, Louis Sheldon

Central City - Louis Sheldon Ray, 66, of Central City, died yesterday at Muhlenberg Community Hospital. Born in McLean County, he was a retired conductor for Illinois Central Gulf Railroad.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Veronica Clae Ray; five daughters, Mrs. Charlie Evelyn Joines, Hammond, Ind.; Mrs. Venoy Ltt and Mrs. Veronica Vanover, both of Central City; Mrs. Sonja Babb, Manchester, Maine, and Mrs. Janice Lewis, Hobart, Ind.; 13 grandchildren, and a brother, Thomas Ray, Central City.

Services 11 a.m. Friday at Tucker Funeral Home, Central City, with the Rev. Joe Spears officiating. Burial in Fairmount Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. today.

Raymer, Betty

Depoy, Ky. - Mrs. Betty Raymer, 65, wife of Cary Raymer, died at her home at Depoy at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday following a lingering illness. She was a member of the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Mrs. William Stovall, Depoy, and Mrs. Lloyd Wagaman, Indianapolis, Ind.; two sons, Leland Latham and George Latham, both of Depoy; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Lillian Trayler, Depoy.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. today at the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Depoy by the Rev. Drexel Hankins. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Raymer, Cary Thomas

Raymer, William

Louisville - William Raymer, 64, of Louisville, formerly of Greenville, died yesterday at St. Anthony Hospital, Louisville. Born in Muhlenberg County, he was a retired machinist for American Synthetic Co.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ora Raymer; a sons, Randall Raymer, Louisville; four daughters, Mrs. Valeda Payne, Mrs. Catrina Sampley, Mrs. Wanda smith and Mrs. Linda Ditto, all of Louisville; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Noah Raymer, Cleveland, Ohio, and William Latney Raymer Jr. and the Rev., Orval Raymer, both of Greenville, and a sister, Mrs. Gladys Gray, Greenville.

Services 2 p.m. Thursday at Gary's Funeral Home, Greenville, with the Rev. William Mallory and the Rev Walter Evitts officating. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. today.
