Judge J.J. Rice taken by death

Funeral services were conducted 1:30 o'clock on Thursday of last week for James J. Rice, at his home in the Old Pisgah church neighborhood by the Rev. Hinkley Smart, pastor of the Greenville Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and Rev. Arthur B. Gross, pastor of the Greenville Presbyterian Church. Burial was in the family cemetery on the farm where Mr. Rice was born, and where he spent the greater part of his life.

Mr. Rice died after mid-night Tuesday, December 13. He was 80 years old and had been in failing health for some time.

Mr. Rice was one of the best known men in Muhlenberg county. He served three times as county judge. He was first elected to that office in 1909, and was re-elected in 1913, serving the two terms consecutively. He was again elected in 1921, and served on term.

Rice, Lawrence Ray

Cpl. Lawrence Ray Rice, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rice of Midland community, who died overseas on December 20, 1943, is buried on Corsica Island, somewhere near the Isle of Capree.

A picture of Cpl. Rice's grave has been received by his parents, from Charley Doss, a former resident of Stringtown community, who now resides in Lafayette, Ind. Cpl. Rice's grave was located by Mr. Doss' son, Staff Sgt. Mayward M. Doss, who is in the Air Corps.

Cpl. Ray landed overseas in April, 1943.

Another son of Mr. and Mrs. Rice, Wallace Darrell, is in Belgium.

Rich, Nancy Louise

Death of daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Rich

Nancy Louise Rich, seven and one-half month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Rich, died at the home of her parents on North Second Street at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning after a three-weeks illness.

The funeral service was held at the residence Wednesday, conducted by the Rev. O.P., pastor of the Baptist Church. Interment was in Fairmount cemetery.

Rife, James Jr., 47, of Drakesboro died Tuesday at Regional Medical Center, Madisonville. Services are at 1 p.m. today at Bethel Baptist Church, Drakesboro. Burial in West End Cemetery, Greenville. Bibbs Funeral Home, Greenville, is in charge of arrangements.
