Waddell, Harry Truman

Harry Truman Waddell, 72, Dies March 14

Beaver Dam - Harry Truman Waddell, 72, formerly of Central City, died in a nursing home in Beaver Dam Tuesday, March 14 at 10:15 p.m. He was born in Muhlenberg County April 12, 1888.

Funeral services will be conducted today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. in Central City with the Rev. Roy Geary, pastor of the Temple Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Nelson Creek cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Raymond Waddell of Cicero, Ill., Truman Waddell of Chicago, Ill.; three daughters, Mrs. Marie Deihl, Mrs. Lola Highers and Mrs. Nellodean Creamer, all of Chicago, Ill.; mother, Mrs. Cora Waddell of Sacramento; three brothers, Cecil Waddell of Central City, Robert Waddell of Henderson, Jesse Waddell; sister, Mrs. Rosie Gregory of Cleaton; 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren.

Waddle, Herman

Herman Waddle, 59, Dies at Central City

Herman Waddle, 59, died at his home on the Stringtown road near Central City at 6:35 a.m. Friday following a lingering illness.

He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

Mr. Waddle is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Waddle; one son, William F. Waddle of Central City; four daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Embry, Mrs. Sarah Louise Embry, Miss Myrtle Waddle, of Central City, Mrs. Pauline Rager of Chicago.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Central City Baptist Church with the Rev. Dewey Mercer officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Memorial Cemetery.

Wade, Joel T.

Rev. Joel T. Wade Dies in Chattanooga

Chattanooga, Tenn. - The Rev. Joel Taylor Wade Jr., 94, retired Presbyterian minister, died July 24 in a local hospital. He made his home at 502 S. Seminole Ave. [Chattanooga].

He had lived in Bevier [Muhlenberg County] for many years and was in charge of the Bevier group of Presbyterian churches in Muhlenberg, including Bethel at Nonnel, Bethlehem at Beechmont, Mt. Zion, Nelson and Elbethel.

The Rev. Mr. Wade had preached at Lewis Mission Chapel, Boulevard Chapel, Log Cabin Chapel and The Way, all in Chattanooga.

A native of Campbellsville, Ky., he was the son of Joe Taylor Wade and Letitia Durham Wade.

He is survived by his wife, Grace A. Vanduyn Wade; two daughters, Mrs. E.M. (Mary) Wade, Arlington, Vt., and Mrs. W.A. Stivers, Rome, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Percy M. Wade, Chattanooga; four grandsons, William Taylor Wade and Thomas Quigg Wade, Chattanooga; William Arthur Stivers, Pittman, N.J., and James Edward Stivers, Arlington, Vt.; two granddaughters, Mrs. Clifford Kinsey, Cornelia, Ga., and Mrs. Richard A. Watt, Falis Church, Va., and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. July 25 at the First Presbyterian Church with Dr. James L. Fowle, Dr. William Crowe and Rev. Willard Peak officiating.

Walker, Amanda

Aunt Amanda Walker, colored, died at her home near the old cemetery last Friday evening, from a complication of ailments incident to her age. She was one of the old residents of the town, where she had spent her long life.

Walker, Betty

Greenville, Ky. - Mrs. Betty Walker, 80, of Route 3, Greenville, died Tuesday at Muhlenberg Community Hospital, Greenville. She was born in Muhlenberg County and was a member of Cherry Grove Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Shelby Walker; two daughters, Mrs. Lovoun Jackson and Lucille Walls, both of Greenville; a foster daughter, Peggy McKinney of Edmonton, Ky.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Guy Drake of Greenville and a half brother, Guy Drake Jr. of Mobile, Ala.

Services are 2 p.m. today at Cherry Grove Church of Christ, Greenville. Burial in the church cemetery. Visitation at Gary's Funeral Home, Greenville.

Walker, Mary Ellen

Funeral services held for Cleaton woman

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Mary Ellen Walker, Thursday, December 1, at the Belview Baptist Church, Cleaton. The services were conducted by the Rev. J.L. Dehart of Centertown. Mrs. Walker was born February 23, 1864, at Princeton, Ind., and accepted Christ in early girlhood. She united with the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Butler county. By living a devout Christian life was an inspiration to all whom she came in contact.

She was married to Mr. Charlie Walker in 1892, to this union three children were born. Mrs. Walker and her husband, whose home was at McHenry, had for the past few years resided at Cleaton.

Surviving are her husband, two daughters, Mrs. F.D. Grubbs and Mrs. John Ward, both of Cleaton; three grandchildren, Thel Grubb of Central City, Ruth Grubb and Marguerite Ward, both of Cleaton; two great-grandchildren, Erma Lois and Barbara Joyce Grubb of Central City; also one brother, A.J. Jenkins of Booneville, Arkansas, and a host of friends and relatives.

Walker, Ollie

Ollie, wife of Finis Walker, colored, died of consumption at their home in the east end at 8.30 o'clock last Saturday morning, after a lingering illness that had for some months confined her to her room. She was 36 years old, and had lived here all her life. She had the respect of all who knew her, and was an industrious, quiet woman. The funeral service was held at the AME church at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Irvin in the presence of a large congregation, and interment was in Evergreen cemetery.

Walker, Shelby

Wallace, Fred T. Jr.

Central City, Ky. - Fred T. Wallace Jr., 63, of 118 W. 2nd St., Central City, died Friday at Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital. He was born in Central City, was a retired hardware merchant from Wallace Hardware in Central City and was a member of Central City First United Methodist Church. He was state representative from Muhlenberg County serving two terms, from 1964 to 1968.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Wallace; a son, Tommy Wallce of Central City; a daughter, Julia Burgess of Owensboro; father and stepmother, Fred T. Sr. and Leona Wallace of Central City; five grandchildren and four sisters, Kathryn Iler of Central City, Mary Young of Bradenton, Fla., Nancy Creceluis of Princeton, Ind., and Sarah Lawton of Louisville.

Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Tucker Funeral Home, Central City. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Central City. Visitation after noon today.

Walls, Mary

Mrs. Mary Walls, 74, Is Buried Saturday

Powderly - Mrs. Mary Lous Reaby Wall, 74, died at her home in the Hillside community near Powderly Thursday, Feb. 23 at 2:30 a.m. following a lingering illness. She was born in Lyon County Jan. 27, 1887.

Mrs. Wall was a member of the Powderly Holiness Church where funeral services were conducted Saturday Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Phillip Uzzle of Martwick officiating, assisted by the Rev. Lorene Pendley. Burial was in the Dovey cemetery.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Mary Agnes Jernigan of Powderly, two sons, Charles Leo Wall of Hammond, Ind., Arthur Raymond Wall of Hillside; two brothers, Dudley Forsythe of Granite City, Ill., Jimmy Forsythe of New York City; eight grandchildren, one great grandchild.

Walters, Rita Russ

Mrs. Rita Russ Walters, of 547 E. Liberty St., died at noon Sunday at her home.

She was retired from the Ma Beha Laundry.

Survivors include her husband, Harry Walters; a daughter, Mrs. Josie Hawkins of Clarksville, Ind., and two grandsons.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at A. Neurath & Son, 725 E. Market St., with burial in Pennsylvania Run Memorial Park.

Ward, Rebecca Delpha

Miss Rebecca Delpha Ward Dies At Home Near Earles

Miss Rebecca Delpha Ward, 66 years old, resident of the Earles section of Muhlenberg county, died at 11:30 o'clock Tuesday morning of last week of angina pectoris, following a stroke she sustained thirty hours previous. Miss Ward died on the old home place, where she was born. She was a daughter of J. W. and Maria Jane Ward, pioneer settlers of the county.

Surviving are the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Florence Carvis of Earlington; George and Silas Ward, Earles; Palas Ward, Weir; Leslie Ward, Ziegler, Ill., and Robert Ward, Central City. Funeral services were held at 11 o'clock Thursday morning from the Antioch Methodist church, near Earles, with the pastor, the Rev. Dillon, in charge. Paul Barnes, chief clerk in the Central City post office, a nephew of deceased, attended the funeral at Antioch.

Ward, Rosalie

Mrs. Rosalie Ward, 78, of Central City, died at 2:06 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11 in Sparks Nursing Center.

She was born June 22, 1918 in Grayson County and was a member of Cherry Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Howard Ward; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Noffsinger of Greenville and Ruby Nell Rager of Central City; two grandchildren; one sister, Bertha Gore of Central City.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday at Tucker Funeral Home, with the Rev. Leroy Rearden officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Warner, Virginia C. & Florence Lillian Reno

Two infants are buried thursday

Virginia C. Warner, 15 days old, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Warner, of Bevier, was found dead in bed by its parents at 6:00 a.m. Wednesday. The child had not been strong from the first. Burial was at the company cemetery at Cleaton Thursday.

Florence Lillian Reno, age one month and thirteen days, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Reno, of near Bethel church, died at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday and was buried Thursday at Bethel cemetery.

The parents of the two infants have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their bereavement.

Warner, William

William Warner, an inmate of the poor farm, died there at 11 o'clock Sunday night, from heart trouble, from which he had been a sufferer for some time. Interment was made on the farm Monday afternoon.

Washington, Oba Lee

Oba Lee Washington, 59, died at 4 a.m. Monday at his home in Graham. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Daniels and Rev. Goss, at Graham Baptist church, at 2 p.m. Thursday. Burial was in the Unity church cemetery, with Masonic rites at the grave. Pallbearers were Kenneth Jones, Seamon Bowman, Earl Martin, Robert Cash, Amos Earle and Arthur Spinks.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bertha Washington; two daughters, Mrs. Charlie Gossett, Flint, Mich., and Pfc. Nancy Duncan, Ft. Custer, Mich.; two sons, William Washington, Flint, Mich., and Roy Washington, Evansville, Ind.; one sister, Mrs. Gullar Dame, Clay; one brother, A.R. Washington, Graham.

Washington, Thomas Relford

Washington Kin Dies At Owensboro Wednesday

Thomas Relford Washington, 82 years old, a third cousin of George Washington, first president of the United States, died at his home in Owensboro Wednesday morning. Born in Hopkins county, Kentucky, November 23, 1851, Mr. Washington had lived there until his young manhood, when he moved to McLean county, then to Muhlenberg county, residing at Bremen for a time. He had been residing in Owensboro for many years.

Mr. Washington's father, George Washington, a second cousin of the first president and probably named for him, was born at Mt. Vernon, Va., June 7, 1819, in Halifax county. He came to Kentucky in 1849, locating in Hopkins county, where he married Mary Elizabeth Ashby, of that place, for whose family the little town of Ashbybury was named.

Watkins, Bertha Ann

Central City - Mrs. Bertha Ann Watkins, 88, of Central City, died at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital.

Born July 2, 1880, in Muhlenberg County, she was a member of the Temple Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Grace McWaters of Paducah and Mrs. Nan Michel of California; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Tucker Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Roy Geary. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. today at the Tucker Funeral Home.

Watson, Thomas Dorris

T.D. Watson, 63, dies in Hopkinsville

Greenville - Thomas Dorris Watson, 63-year-old Greenville negro, died at 12:45 a.m. Sunday in Western State Hospital in Hopkinsville.

Surviving are the wife, Mrs. Addie Mae Watson of Greenville, and several cousins.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Trinity Chapel CME Church in Earlington by the Rev. C.E. Barnhill of Evansville with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery on North Kentucky Avenue in Madisonville.
