Courthouse
Courthouse was erected in 1860 and five years later was burned by guerillas. It burned again in 1892, but was rebuilt and remained in service until 1967.

LARUE COUNTY
KENTUCKY

LaRue county was named after John LaRue and formed in 1843. It is located in the Pennyrile region of the state. The elevation in the county ranges from 421 to 1080 feet above sea level. In 1990 the county population was 11,679 in a land area of 263 square miles, an average of 44.4 people per square mile. The county seat is Hodgenville and is located on the site of Robert Hodgen's mill on the Nolin River. The mill was built in 1789 near Phillips' Fort, which was built in 1781, in what was then Hardin county.
Hodgenville was established in 1818 and became the county seat when LaRue county was created in 1843. The first post office opened as Hodgensville in 1826 and was renamed Hodgenville in 1904. The population in 1990 was 2,721. Abraham Lincoln was born near Hodgenville and the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site is on US 31E south of town.

LaRue County Herald Obituary Indexes.

Transcribed, copyrighted and submitted by L. L. Salsman.
The years 1925 and 1944 do not have any data
since there is no microfilm available for those years!

About the Obituary Index:This obituary index is taken from The LaRue County Herald, on microfilm located at the LaRue County Public Library. Each name is listed with the date of the newspaper, also page and column number where it can be found. Some have very detailed information, some only a mention of the date or location of their deaths, funerals or burials. Some died in surrounding counties, some in another state. I have listed these so you will know where to look for more details. I listed the spouse or parent, if given. If the spouse and parent were both named, I listed the spouse. This is a very slow process so please be patient while you are waiting for another year to be posted. -LLS
