The Hopkins County Genealogical Society is located
on the second floor of the Hopkins County Library at
31 South Main St, in downtown Madisonville, across the street from the court
house.
The Society has a large collection of books, specializing in the various county
books available for Kentucky,
especially those counties that surround Hopkins County. They also have numerous
books on Virginia, North
Carolina, and Tennessee as well as other states.
The Society's library is not affiliated in any way with the Hopkins County
Library. The Society library is
staffed by volunteers five days a week Monday and Saturday 10 AM to 1PM ,
Tuesday, Wednesday Thursday
from 1-5pm for your convenience. (A volunteer must be on duty for you to have
access to the library unless
you are a paid member.)
Members may visit at any time. If there is no volunteer on duty when you arrive,
simply request the key at
the main desk down stairs and sign in. (You must show your current year
membership card.)
Hopkins County Genealogical Society celebrates its 43 year anniversary in 2009.
We invite you to become a
member. Dues are $20 per year which entitle you to unlimited access to the
Society's library, and a
subscription to "YESTERDAY'S TUCKAWAYS", a quarterly published by the Society.
Queries with Hopkins County
connections are welcomed and will be published as space permits, (usually not a
problem).
Meetings are held every 4th Tuesday at 7:00pm (except Dec.) 2nd Floor of the
Library.
